CF question

Thread Starter
This going to be the first time I used CF. I was wondering, do i only need one bridge or 2? Just cfing 2 7970's

I figured I better order one or 2 with my card.

Also

I go with my 7970

what card would you all get, the gigabyte

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125413

or

XFX

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125413

I would like to get another ref, but newegg is out of stk and I would like to get the 2 free games with it too! Crysis 3 and Bioshock
post #2 of 12
for xfire 2 cards only one bridge is needed, the second set of fingers is used for adding a 3rd card.
i would go for the gigabyte over the XFX as the Gb has better cooling.
BTW both your links are the same card smile.gif

Because of a mistake in the links, I'm going to assume you're referring to the XFX double dissipation version, as it has a better cooler than the "core edition" of the XFX 7970.

I would personally get the XFX DD version, just because I'm a sucker for the looks of that card, with the black PCB and sweet cooler.
However, the gigabyte card is significantly better then the XFX Core edition, which has only 1 fan.

XFX: Aesthetics
Gigabyte: Cooling

Well, at least in this scenario.

EDIT: I think I remember seeing XFX 7970s for about 50$ cheaper than the gigabyte ones on newegg or NCIX.

As clearly stated by AMD here, only one cf bridge is needed.
Quote:
For an AMD CrossFire™ system, a second AMD Radeon™ HD 7970 Graphics card, an AMD CrossFire™ Ready motherboard and one AMD CrossFire™ Bridge Interconnect cable is required

About the 2nd gpu, that's up to your taste tongue.gif

Ok I get the point, Gigabyte

Now would I put that card on top? The clocks are kinda close, but my ref is faster.
