Most problems are related to balance, and thats an easy fix (we are still in Beta for a reason).

The engine is great and the game does look good, I think most complaints about graphics come from people with dated/mid-low GPUs.

I can run the game maxed out and I am, the graphics still look bad not only compared to the screenshots of the game but compared to COH 1 as well.

I wish you could show screens of how your game is running because in my pc they look great (i know there is an NDA right now, so this is not possible.) The released screenshots are similar to what i see and they show the quality of the game and provided this is a Beta there could be improved graphics on release (this is a speculation).

Also your rig is ok but it's not top of the line either...

COH, from my 3 years of experiences with SP and MP, is nothing like a standard RTS. You have "fixed" resources (region control) and have to distribute it appropriately to counter your opponent's move. You cannot spam units and every unit loss will influence the outcome of endgame. Also, each faction has its own advantages, with the Germans being stronger in late-game and the Americans dominant in early-game (didn't play Brits much).

PE, on the other hand, is a whole different story rolleyes.gif

The AI in COH1 was interesting in that they weren't necessarily hard, but had slight advantages (higher resource income/min, higher HP). Also, it utilized off-map units. A LOT.

Adding to above post another interesting thing in the CoH franchise is because the resources are map based you can know exactly how many resources the enemy is getting each minute which can change your caution levels a lot.

Also, micros are MUCH more important in this game than with other "standardized" RTS like Starcraft. Depending on direction units are facing/positioning, your units can be either outstanding or extremely vulnerable.

CoH is about pushing - like mad. Keep applying pressure. If you see something that's his, and uncontested, try taking it. Even if you're just sending a low-tier unit. It'll show up on his screen as something crazy like "THEY ARE TAKING OUR TERRITORY", and he'll have to shift focus. If you can do this while you're in a fairly large fight, 99% of the time, he won't do anything. Just repeat this for the ENTIRE game, and the ENTIRE map.

Other tricks include pushing near his base. Strategically, it might not make much sense, but morally, it helps a ton. By being 'in his face', even with just a few defensive units (an MG in a building, a squad in cover, etc.), he'll want you away from his base. Use that to basically be a distraction while you take the whole map.

Other tips include not losing units, more micro, not floating resources, etc.

/edit

I'll be online in about 2 hours..... aaannyyooonneee wanna group up?

Nah it's not that.

I'm used to playing airborne and being super aggressive.

The problem is the mortars don't die, do massive amounts of damage, are too cheap and it ruins the start game. You can attack a group of 2-3 mortars with tanks and drive right up to them, bombard them with pain and they just sit there and take it and if you use grenadiers it's even worse. And that's what I'm not enjoying about the game. It's the same every match.

Your opponents abuse mortars and you just have to keep charging them constantly or they will walk right through your entire army with them and because of it there is no start game. It's just a rush to get panzers so you can deal with the mortars and then, the Russian's build artillery tanks and field guns. So it just turns into a spam fest of artillery and tanks.

COH had different doctrines with different personalities which changed the way you could play. The current doctrines have no personality and it's the same every match. Mortars and Russian artillery that doesn't stop and you constantly charging it. COH you could play in different ways and always be effective. COH2 you're forced to play a single way or loose because of what you're dealing with and your lack of options.

I haven't lost a match out of the last 7 matches I've played and there are many great things about the game I like but I'm just not having fun at this point. Maybe I'm resisting adapting but I hate it when games force me to do things and play a certain way instead of allow me to be creative.

Sounds like the same problem players faced during Eastern Front mod's induction. Russians were able to build extremely powerful mortar units and lock down a VP entirely biggrin.gif

I had a lot of fun playing this with a friend. Before we knew it, 45 minutes had passed and it felt like 15. ohno-smiley02.gif I like the new environmental factors like blizzards and falling through frozen lakes.

Question for people on the beta, can you tell from the beta what type of micro transactions this game will have?

Also, although i really like RTS games, i only play campaign because im very bad in multiplayer environments, specially at micro. Do you think this is a good game to jump on to the multiplayer considering the fact that im rubbish at it? (i am going to buy the game anyhow, i just want to know if this title is a good jump off point or if i should look at another game to start on multiplayer)
