Constant driver crashing on gtx 670, HELP!!!

Thread Starter
Ok, so I've had my gtx 670 for like 8 months, and it's worked perfectly the whole time. Today however, after I installed and played a short bit of the new Tombraider game, I have had constant (like every 2 minutes) screen crashing, where my screen goes blank, and then a message appears saying that the driver (314.22) has crashed and recovered. I feel like it's related to the game, and I uninstalled it, but it's still happening. Can anyone help me??? My computer is basically useless because of this. Also, benchmarks run at like 15 fps and then crash.

Trying installing the driver you had before 314.22, that might do the trick.

Any other ideas? The first time it crashed was right after I ran the tombraider benchmark, so im wondering if it has something to do with that game

Are your cards overlooked at all? If so, try it at stock speeds.
I had similar issues with my GTX 680s and Tomb Raider, I had to drop my gpu clock down to +26mhz and men clock to +300mhz to prevent a driver reset. I was getting the "timed out" error for the video driver. I tried manually upping the timeout in the registry but had no luck.

Ya I returned it to stock clocks right away, no luck. I had a heavy over clock on it and it had been stable for months, but even when I took that off it is still crashing like every 2 minutes. Its seems odd that it would be a hardware issue, since the card's been perfect for like 8 months, but could that be it? Again, it happened for the first time right after I ran the in game benchmark in tomb raider.

I meant use the clean install option when you install the drivers. Not sure what the difference is though, besides not keeping the user settings.
Completely driver related.

Reinstall your driver or install a different one. What you have is called TDR or Time Detection Recovery, basically Windows is not a real-time OS, so sometimes Windows does not prioritize (or tries to) the frames being produced by your graphics card; so what happens is... the second or two that it doesnt produce a frame (or lags -- doesnt make it on schedule -- talking about milliseconds here), your driver will crash, black screen, then return to your desktop as to what is like a 'mini BSOD'... where Windows basically said "yeah the driver crashed and the OS tried to fix its mistake and returns you back to how you were normally - before the TDR"

I had a lot of TDR's in the R301.xx and R297.xx drivers, but i am on 314.14 and have 0 TDR's since.

I know it is driver related because i have installed every driver version there is known WHQL/Beta all the way as old as 275.xx drivers, and found certain drivers to bring more TDR's than others, or some that have 0 TDR's.

I could be wrong about the explanation above^^^ but its basically whats going on and almost usually its driver related, especially since you say youre at stock clocks -- will wait for someone to correct me
