Either way, either card would be good and in most cases going from a clock of 1200 mhz on the core to 1050 mhz core usually only translates into a couple fps.

If you are really looking at value consider the 7870 XT.

I wouldn't get a 7870 XT. It is absolutely riddled with problems.

Its no 8800GT.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/his_radeon_7950_x_iceq_review,1.html

This is what gets me about these cards, and it's not just this particular HIS 7950, it's ALL 7950's that I have read this about....

Go on newegg and check the majority of the 7950 reviews, you will find that many people say the same experience such as:

(Taken from newegg reviews)
"- Smooth gameplay in BF3 ultra +v-sync on hitting 60+ with only a bump down to 45'ish here and there but returns with power."
"Runs all my games on ultra settings at 30-40 FPS. stays cool and quite" -No idea what games this guy is playing to get such low fps?????
"Runs most games on high+ at 50-60 fps). Currently running stable at 1000/1350."

And there's much more where people are saying their 7950's dip below 60 into 30-50 fps.

Now I KNOW from personal experience any 7970 doesn't have this problem , I mean sure the 7970 I have right is faulty and I need to return it, but still even with it's problems I get crazy 100+ fps in most demanding games such a BF3 for example.... Im not sure maybe it's because of my processor? But still it's not enough to convince to get a 7950 as much as I was hoping to be.

In the end I think Im just going to settle for a 7970 and get it over with. No point in settling for anything less tbh.

You could easily tell they are lacking in RAM bandwidth (system RAM) and/or their CPU is not up to task

Real thermal control problems. Throttling is an extremely common problem prevalent in too many Tahiti XTs.

Mine also had flickering and artifact problems. Yes, this is all at stock.

Some people have it even worse - 3D apps throttled to 2D clocks, very strange clocks in Crossfire, etc..

Powercolor then. Sapphire XT's version.

I have never heard of problems of either cards here on OCN and perhaps how did you know? You used one before?

I've heard many people OC their 7950 to 7970 speeds eaaaaaaaaaaaaaasily. Also the 7970 is only 15% better than the 7970, not worth the price imo.

Nice clocks! My TFIII OC's to 1225/1625 without touching the voltage. Recently I was looking at upgrading to 7970's, but I couldn't get myself to do it. I love my 7950's. Also, they are both reference pcb's so I'm going to set up a full custom loop soon to try to get them higher.
