For a GPU that's pretty good, i would stop just before 80C, he uses a Powercolor 7950 normal edition that is supposedly "third-world quality"

I have never heard of problems of either cards here on OCN and perhaps how did you know? You used one before?

Sapphire's *may* be marginally more reliable. But many issues are endemic to 7870 Tahitis it seems.

Yes, I owned a Powercolor Myst 7870 before returning it. It caused me too much grief.

If you've never heard of any of the problems then you can heres a whole thread for you to peruse through rolleyes.gif

The 7950 is the better card in terms of price/performance. Yet an average 7950 won't beat an average 7970. It's a lottery and you take your chances.

Since it looks like you really want a 7970, have you considered a used one?

Go on newegg and check the majority of the 7950 reviews, you will find that many people say the same experience such as:

(Taken from newegg reviews)
"- Smooth gameplay in BF3 ultra +v-sync on hitting 60+ with only a bump down to 45'ish here and there but returns with power."
"Runs all my games on ultra settings at 30-40 FPS. stays cool and quite" -No idea what games this guy is playing to get such low fps?????
"Runs most games on high+ at 50-60 fps). Currently running stable at 1000/1350."

And there's much more where people are saying their 7950's dip below 60 into 30-50 fps.

Now I KNOW from personal experience any 7970 doesn't have this problem , I mean sure the 7970 I have right is faulty and I need to return it, but still even with it's problems I get crazy 100+ fps in most demanding games such a BF3 for example.... Im not sure maybe it's because of my processor? But still it's not enough to convince to get a 7950 as much as I was hoping to be.

In the end I think Im just going to settle for a 7970 and get it over with. No point in settling for anything less tbh.

That's just not true. I've owned a mildly overclocked 7970 for a long time now (1100 / 1575MHz), and it most definitely does not do 100+ fps everywhere. It's game-dependent, and in some cases I do get 35-40fps. That's at 1440p though. You need to know the whole story--what people's resolution is, what games they are playing, what processor / ram / rest of their set up is, how well their OS works, etc.

wat

*EDIT* ROFL I just noticed I've owned..... must of been last year before newer improved drivers came out.

I guess you never heard of exaggeration..... or the fact that I was pointing out they were having said dips IN BF3.....

100+ is my average on most games.....everything set to STOCK... And yeah it does dip SOMETIMES to 70, but NEVER below 60 on the majority of games I play.... sorry man I don't play unoptimized crap games.

These screens are old and were used for other reasons - to show artifact but you can clearly see the fps I was getting....

Everything at stock clocks CPU,GPU,RAM...... no mild overclocks, or overclocks at all..... All set to Ultra ....1080

bf32013040422433935.png

bf32013040422434282.png

And if this isn't enough I'm sure once I get my new card I will overclock as much as I can and unleash the rest of my system's overclocks and come back to this thread with screencaps that will surely blow these frames away and convince you...

And you guys can stop bumping this thread, I ended getting a brand new sealed reference 7970 for $350 shipped....
