Overclocking 3930K on ROG Rampage IV Formula/bf3

Thread Starter
Hi OCN

I've recently started overclocking my i7 3930K stepping 7 C2 ( on my ROG Rampage IV Formula aircooled board.
The results I get are quite okay, but I'm quite sure I'm able to push more juice out of this bad boy if I knew more.

So far I've pushed it to 4.7GHz stable 24/7 also using the XMP profile on the RAM (4x4GB Corsair DorminatorGT) so their at 21xxHz.
The overclock is only done by increasing multiplier to 47 and vCore to 1.35. My temps using Prime95 are around 70-75 celcious using these settings.
The CPU is cooled by the NH-D14 SE2011 in a HAF X, with an extra NF-F12 fan as intake, to blow straight into the NH-D14 in the top.

First of all, aren't those temps quite high for that volt setting? Second of all, I've tried increasing the BCLK FSB to everything between 105 to 101 and the system gets unstable on them all.
Anything I'm doing wrong with the FSB? I haven't touched VTT or LCC power settings in any way.

I'm still rather new to overclocking, so bare with my stupidity. smile.gif

Best regards,
Andreas

Ps. the system:

This is the lowest voltage setting it's stable on. I've tested that already.

The one provided by Noctua, I've also tried MX-2 with the same result.

4.7GHz with 1.35v is pretty good. The temps are pretty good also. Everything looks in order with that set up. The max I'd think you'll be able to get is 4.8Ghz and that might need 1.4v for that. Then the temperature will be an issue.

A 3930k @4.7Ghz on an air cooler is pretty amazing to tell you the truth, even the overclock itself. I'd stay where you are.

Oh, I heard I might be able to push more out of the CPU using LLC and other tweaks. Reaching 4.8GHz without exceeding the recommended temperatures would be sweet.
Sorry for the late response, I had an internet outtage.

I've tried messing around with the BCLK, but everytime I just change it the slightest, the system gets unstable.
Even at 100.5. I guess it isn't worth touching then, or does anyone have any input on that matter?

System is still stable at 47 multiplier and 1.35vcore, and also using the Corsair DorminatorGT 4x4GB's XMP profile, which is 2133hz.
Prime95 tested of course, and gaming tested ^^

Edit: I've changed my rig in my signature to my current.
