And I do agree that d3 devs should have considered the evolution of D2 instead of starting from scratch almost. But you know what? D3 at launch (minus those crap connection errors because blizz didn't want to invest into infrastructure) was extremely similar to D2 at launch...The itemization was all over the place then...The whole game was bugged for years ,in items and skills (burizons for example). Also D2 economy was not "purely underground" . There was a trade window you know. It was expected that you would trade-it just was primitive as a design. You don't realise that during the dupe lag method if you played online, on your own, in your very own game, you'd still crash because some lowlife somewhere in the same server was duping using the lag exploit.

Right now ,D3 difficulty is greatly toned down. nowhere near to what it was before june. You can start it and finish it "untwinked" as it was the D2 terminology, using only the items you find in game as you progress. In that sense AH is not necessary. It was back in the beggining when the game was a huge gear check ,and yes it was a bad design. It also isn't relevant any more, the AH is there ,you can take it or leave, just as trade option was during D2. Nothing more, nothing less. And btw, you can duel since february, it is called brawling.

How is it OK for D3's launch to be as buggy as D2's launch? That is completely unacceptable to me especially with them charging $60 for this half-assed alpha game that they actually dared to release. You know what made D2's launch automatically better than D3? Offline and LAN mode. If servers were broken, I could still play. Itemization in D2 may not have started as well as it ended up, but it sure was a lot freaking better than the crap D3 had. Do you even remember how unbelievably crappy legendary and set items were at the beginning of D3? It wasn't just bad bad, it was retarded bad.

D3 has been toned down because of how crappy itemization was and still is. Now because Inferno is a cakewalk, high end gear doesn't matter much until you start increasing MP levels (also jacked from D2 by the way) and "brawling" as I pointed out is nothing like dueling was in D2. "Brawling" is complete crap. No hostile? No global duels whenever wherever? Sorry, but no thanks. Get that weak crap out of here. Also, AH =/= trading... not by a long shot. Trading in D2 help build up the community. AH is an anonymous clean room where you never see who is selling it and how they got it. You can't talk to them and decide to play with them. AH was problem and it was further compounded by itemization and loot system.

EDIT: Actually, I am done with this thread. Just remembering this crap game makes me upset. It's like beating a dead horse. Clearly, Blizzard is not the same company that it use to be. Unsubscribed.

I never said it was ok for D3 to start buggy,it isn't acceptable for any game. I think the issue is that you expected D3 to be just like D2. Well it is a different game, just as D2 was different than D1. Seeing your posts takes me back 12-13 years , people back then complained that D2 is crap, lost the dark feeling of D1, was a cakewalk cause had no friendly fire etc. D2 had crappy itemization for years and years and it was a broken design by default in many aspects. Casters didn't scale with weapon damage, just +skills therefore weren't gear dependant, melee were shafted for absolutely needing good %ed on weapons. Because of the crap D2 economy blizzard started upgrading runewords which made class set items borderline useless very quickly. The inventory was rigged the moment charms were introduced- you HAD to fill it up senseless if you wanted not to start pvp disadvantaged. D2 trade was a bless and a curse, it helped socialize but it also was scammer galore. Even your coveted duel system was compromised for large periods of time (kills in town etc).

D2 had years to mature into it's classic forms (1.09 and of course 1.10+).Uber tristram came FIVE years after launch-you do understand what that means. Lots of things got ironed out eventually. But one thing that was never fixed (because it was botched from start) was its economy. It was crap, broken beyond repair. Duped sojs made blizzard implement diablo clone and warden ,dupe runes made the game trivial (everyone and their dog were running hoto/enigma/botd/grief etc). During the period of the lag duping method you couldn't even play with those 1400 latencies because of dupers crashing servers. In that sense, D3 is learning from its mistakes much faster and is in a pretty good state atm. The problem is that the market moves much faster these days and blizz needs to up their game and start throwing content more frequently.

A good friend of mine was doing Baal runs up until D3 launched. He hates D3. This should tell you something.

Also, nobody gives a crap about the economy. I didn't buy D3 to play the economy. I played D2 primarily by myself for the first ~3 years, then jumped into Bnet. So for 3 years I didn't even know an economy existed. The point is: If the game is Amazing, like D2, then nobody will care about a bloody economy issue. Economy is a lame excuse used by Blizz to rationalize their money grubbing tactics to sheep. thumb.gif

That is completely false. The entire game practically revolves around the broken economy. Of course there are going to be people that ignore it and try to just enjoy the game but dedicated players know how bad it is.

A million players daily sounds decent but for Blizzard I would think its pretty poor. Especially because of the success of DII and their other games as well as how big of a deal it was when DIII came out last year. I don't have other numbers to compare it to though so I cannot be sure of that.

Pretty much ZealotKiller. Last time I logged on, my friends list was a Ghost Town. Most of them had not logged on in 150-200 days ect. And most of my buddies are huge Diablo fans. Blizzard really screwed up

Ya you're right, the thousands of players still playing an almost 15 year old PC game definitely care more about the economy than the game itself.
I consider the game working because the economy is not integral in its functionality in beating normal through hell. Game is fun, engrossing, variable, loved by its fans, actually not loved, REVERED. All because it's just sooo Broken. Seems Legit rolleyes.gif
