I also defeated the entire thing through Inferno and it was extremely disheartening when they nerfed the thing in future patches. After the patches it was no big deal to run through inferno.
So the over all terribleness of the game didn't sway you?

With no auction house, the Diablo player's economy would just switch back to using D2JSP for virtual currency auctions, and warez sites for real money purchases of (duped) top end gear.

However, that process would be invisible to casual players. Letting the auction house out of the game and back into the wild would probably change the new player experience for the better, while only mildly inconveniencing the core Diablo fans who like to trade in a massive marketplace and have been using D2JSP for years.

I had hoped the barbarian would be similar to how it was in D2. They're the strongest characters and suddenly they can't dual-wield two-handed weapons? Frenzy barbs (the D2 ones) were some of my favorite builds.

Paladins with their auras benefited the party as a whole, while being able to tank the damage, heal, and DPS like nobody's business.

I haven't logged into D3 for months now. I just can't play for more than 15 minutes without getting bored. I'm considering going right back to Diablo 2.

I agree that D3 is a great "action" game since "RPG" fell off the bus. If itemization was done correctly, we wouldn't need the AH. People used 3rd party websites to trade because they wanted to perfect their builds. In all honesty though, you did not need to trade to get the builds you want to work. Items yes, but builds no. For example, hammerdins did not NEED enigma for the build to work. You could run up to groups of mobs instead and start casting hammers. Same with javazons and trap assassins. This is unlike D3 where you need some legendaries or sets for your build to be successful.

The core diablo fans huh? I've played Diablo since I was in 2nd grade, and to this day have never touched d2jsp. In fact, none of my friends have either.

I agree it is beta, it's beta for the expansion pack were they promise most of the things that people want to get everyone to buy it again.

Overall the game did fall short, and itemization was probably the single worst failing but even then I think it's a better game then most people OCN give it credit for. Was it as good as it should have been or live up to previous games, no. Do feel I get my $60 worth of mostly enjoyable play in before I went onto other games, yes.

It really depends on perspective I suppose. Do I think it is a "good' game compared to today's crappy games? Absolutely. Do I think this half baked failure was is worth $60? Absolutely not. That said, I find very few games worth anywhere close to $60 in the past decade. Do I think D3 can hold a candle next to previous Diablo games? HELL NO!

If game decisions were not made with the AH in mind, I would agree with you. AH+Itemization+Loot System = Failure
