Intel’s New Extreme Processors Will Barely Improve Performance Significantly – Specifications.

Intel Corp.’s highly-anticipated new-generation Core i7 Extreme-series microprocessors will not be as revolutionary as they could be, according to newly published specifications of the code-named Ivy Bridge-E chips for desktops. Intel plans to release three new chips for high-end desktops (HEDTs) in the second half of 2013, but they will be barely faster than predecessors, if the unofficial information is correct.

I'm sure it'll be a decent enough upgrade for me to grab one. Lower power consumption / heat, decent headroom for overclocking, better memory support will be enough for me to upgrade. Performance wise the 3930K is a monster, a more refined version of that will be awesome biggrin.gif.

4820K could pack a much higher clock than 4770K if it have a higher TDP(3820 have the same 130W TDP as the rest of SB-E)+no IGP, something like 4.0Ghz wouldn't be too surprising and 4770K's IPC would be neutralized by such a high clock.

i7-4820K is good news ; it might cannibalize i7-4770K if the good z87 boards are pricey .

Z87 supposedly has USB3.0 issues so that's a bad point for it already.

4820K chip with X99 chipset would kill the high end Z87 board(+250) market if 4820K can beat 4770K.

Looks like I might be able to buy a 4930k when I have the money spare in January 2014.

Count me in.

Yeah I expect a deliberate move to get more onto the bottom rung of the more expensive high end tier. I.e if someone is building new rig, and choices are Haswell or Ivy-E an 4820K with no igpu on a cheap X79 board would be very tempting, quad channel memory and a good upgrade path as well. Down the line more likely to buy a higher end CPU on same chipset or same performance tier, good marketing..

If I had been considering a Haswell build with 4770K, just the rumour of an unlocked 4820K would be enough to put me off..
