Best resolution 27" for my PC/Graphics?

I have an i5-750 (the older i5) overclocked to 3.2Ghz. 8GB DDR1600. ATI HD 7870 OC 2GB.

I'm currently running a 22" CHIMEI monitor @ 1680x1050 and I desperately want to upgrade my display. I've been on forums for hours reading about the Korean monitors from eBay, from the joy to the nightmares. I'm not really sure if even getting a 27" 2560x1440 monitor would be a good idea with my current specs. Would it be better to just get a 1920x1080 27" monitor?

Any recommendations on a monitor for around $350?

A 7870 is still good for 1440p. Even though you wont be able to play at max settings on very demanding games, you will love the extra resolution. Not only is it better in games, it helps during web browsing and word processing.

After reading more.... I'm still scared my 7870 isn't going to hack it for 1440 resolution. Is anyone running a 7870 on a 27" at 1440 and have comments?

It will be enough for medium-high settings, even ultra in some older games. I wouldn't worry. I recommend the Crossover 27Q if you want a 1440p monitor, if you want to go 1080p then stick with 24".

Anyone question... If I grab a 1440P, can I play games in scaled or centered (prefer centered with black around) at a lower resolution using the 7870, such if I wanted to fall back to 1680x1080 or 1920x1080, etc?

Sorry to bump, can anyone answer this question?

I haven't tried centered but you should be able to scale to whatever you want, 1920x1080 works fine with my 6870 on my 1440 screens.
