Chinesse Hardware design errors

Thread Starter
I've seen the flash drive disguised as a hard drive:

Then there's the dummy antenna to make the Bluetooth dongle look more professional:

Today I went to fix my 5.1 Surround Sound USB sound card and found this:

It looks like the screws are there to hold the device together right?

Nope, the screws go nowhere and the device holds together with glue.

Has anyone else seen any of these design-ripoffs in their products?

Wow, all three of those are pretty epic. I can't say that I have seen any that bad. I've never seen a design that was completely superfluous or erroneous like those, but I have seen some that are just plain bad engineering. I am always looking designs over and analyzing them, I guess that comes by nature being a mechanical engineering student. Most things are just done inefficiently or ineffectively.

Thing is, thats not bad engineering, those are straight-up rip-offs designed to either falsely bolster confidence in the product, or, in the case of the Thumb-HDD, just straight up rip you off by charging you for a HDD and selling you a USB stick.

Wow, this new WD external is really quiet!

I saw a few week ago someone that bought an Exernal HDD, he bring it to me saying he just bought it and it doesnt work so he ask me to look at it.

When i plug it the PC saw it as a raw Partition of 2TB, But was a Western Digital of which only 1TB Drive Exist.
After i look at the S/N # and it say it should be a 500GB USB 3.0 but have a 2.0 connector so we decided to crack it open, had bolts and nuts glue in it, Also was a dummy controler with an LED and a USB cable that was there.
