AMD CPU check

Thread Starter
so i got an AMD CPU but i am not "feeling" some things that i bought for it especially my motherboard which was gigabyte's 990 FXA ud3.
so i am thinking of getting a asus crosshair v formula-z for better performance and clock speed and cooling too.

my current settings(will be):

AMD FX-8350(already have)
Asus CrossHair V formula-Z
Sapphire 7970 Vapor-x 6gb (if i don't get the 8xxx by next time)
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX850
Thermaltake Water-Cooler 2.0
Corsair Dominator 8gb 1866

mobo is the main thing i changed and i didn't have a decent power supply so i need a new 1. graphics cards is 7970 6gb if i can afford or the 3gb 1(unless they launch the 8xxx series by June). water cooler is wat i chose and would like to know if itz good. ram i am upgrading to 1800mhz with cooler (don't want my ram to melt tongue.gif) . i sold all my other accessories so i can buy the new ones.
i would like to know if this is a good setup also i will be overclocking my cpu to 4.6 min or 5.0 max if i can(need advice later when i get these things).
i can add links to wat i am planning to buy if needed for more details, but i won't be shopping online.

This sounds like unrealistic expectations rather than faulty hardware. I highly doubt you will see any difference between the two boards in real-world performance. Same goes for faster RAM. And RAM heatsinks, which are utterly useless and only get in the way of heatsinks.

That said, it's a good set-up as long as you're not intending to achieve any kind of cost-efficiency standard.

Yea, going from 1600mhz-1800mhz ram will give you no noticeable difference. That goes along with your mobo, you will not see any noticeable difference switching mobos.

TT Water 2.0 Extreme is a good CLC. if you want to go water I would spend a little more
and get an expandable Swiftech H220 (prebuild custom water cooler kit). You can add
your video card(s) to the loop. If not plenty of High End Air Coolers are a good option.

Crossfire Powercolor 7870 PCS+ MYST 2GB (TAHITI LE) setup is a lot of bang for the buck.
Might want to consider it.

thanx for the replies
@MisterFred: my room heats up alot during summer, giga mobo wasn't faulty but i failed to get the latest revision and also i got no feedback from them on fixing a few update issues. so some1 here already recommended me to take the Asus for simplicity in case smile.gif ram heatsink is cuz of summertime but if it gets in the way it'll be a problem. i'm not trying to be cost effective but i still have a barrier i can't cross.
@IBoonI: the ram i am planning to buy is an upgrade for my 800mhz 1 tongue.gif also my last mobo seems to have some minor ram tweak problem i read awhile bak.
@Heuchler: thanx for the detailed list m8. the mobo price will help me alot. as for graphic card i think i can go a bit high if it gives me a bang till next year's end or atleast 2 years. rolleyes.gif also i don't think i can afford Swiftech H220(my bro won't agree) *sigh* i have 1 question if u have the time. if i go around 4.6 or 5.0 CPU clock will 750W cover me?

thanx for all ur help till now i hope u can help me with more info.

I think a quality 750W will be enough. My current setup doesn't draw more than 500W from the wall.
I didn't recommend a single HD 7870 (Tahiti LE). not with that setup. I recommended getting two
and Crossfire the little monsters (if you can live with the limited 2GB vram). get one at a time.
Some people don't like CF some do. But two overclock MYST edition HD 7870 should be
40% faster than a single 7970 GHz (various from game to game).
That is why I really like the $140 Swiftech H220 vs the $100 CLC (Asetek). I would
consider high end Air Coolers over a rebadged Asetek unit. Performs about the same
(2-3c) but is quieter and doesn't have a chance of mechanical failure.

Looks like you will have a really nice system.

I just switched from running Gigabyte boards for the last 10 years to Asus Sabertooth 990FX.
Very impressed with Asus board. Lots of BIOS options that GB doesn't let you access. Really
like both companies but Gigabyte is falling behind a little (Gigabyte P4 BIOS felt the same as P67).

110 degrees Fahrenheit - 43 degrees Celsius. (A seventy degree room is 21 C). So you have to have REALLY high deltas for room temperature to matter.

@Misterfred: i c then i shouldn't have to worry, my room temp current stays at 32 C constant for 3-4hrs sometimes. if 43 is peak then i should have trouble.
@Heuchler: if 750W can power 2 overclocked GPU and CPU then i'm happier. $140 for Swiftech seems good, but i saw 1 in amazon for $239 so i got confused. can u giv me a link of the $140 1. i'm also looking into high-end aircoolers but haven't thought about that in the past, i'll be doing my homework on that.
2x7870, didn't notice, yeah i think itz a better option. but i'll need help with overclocking them later. tongue.gif

if this is good i'll go for this 1: Seasonic M12II 750 SS-750AM 750W Semi-modular 80+ Bronze (though i'll be buying from a store rather than online)
thanx for all the info, i'll head on to the overclocking section to better understand wat i'll have to do to overclock my CPU to 4.6Ghz (min).
