Nvidia is doing just fine with Tegra. Project Shield is probably the dumbest idea from Nvidia ever though.

PS4 will be a low end PC as will Durango. Consoles don't need to be top of the line because it's a hell of a lot easier to optimize games when you only have one hardware set to code for. Essentially they will be low end PC's with graphics that will challenge high end PC's for the first couple years.

That pretty much sums it up right there.

That's a little different, if I recall the Dreamcast ran Windows CE. Wasn't it a MIPS or ARM system?

I think the Xbox ran a stripped down Windows ME or 2000 system, as it was basically a P3 Celeron.

Or was it the fact that AMD could do it cheaper than they could?

Nvidia took a gamble on Tegra being more profitable than a console tie in. Only time will tell if they were right.

I can't get over how much ridiculous brand bashing is going on in this thread. They exist to take your money people not to be your friend.

Nvidia trashed and AMD responded and burned Nvidia by pointing the fact they don't have the necessary solution and hardware needed for Microsoft and Sony. AMD has their GPU's in current generation consoles Xbox 360 and Wii, in the next generation they have in Wii U, Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 so AMD has a monopoly on mainstream console's and it automatically turned game developers towards them. If all goes well AMD will able to invest more in R&D and at least partially pay of its debt...

Also AMD has an supreme advantage over Intel in tablets, Temash APU's ran over Intel's currently available solutions and will beat Intel's follow up... AMD made blitzkriegs on two fronts and that is the tablets and console's, hopefully Richland will perform well and AMD's GPU Division will resolve latency issues very soon.

Its rumored that AMD will ship games with their processors, anyone has a link?

^ This.

Tell me that 10% does not matter.

EDIT: A while ago, Tom's Hardware did a GPU driver experiment on a 4850. They tested a variety of drivers ranging from the first stable release for the 4850, and the latest one when they started doing the benchmarks.

They concluded by staying up to date with the graphic drivers, the updated 4850 matched an un-updated 4870 in performance.

no one said 10% didnt matter, but 10% isnt gonna make up the difference between a 570 and a 680...the difference is almost 200%..

I haven't heard much about AMD outside of the tech websites. AMD's marketing department should look into getting the general public's interest. Such as TV ads, or paying part of OEMs' ads in return for mentioning AMD's products.

What about the price difference between a 660 and a 680?

Anyone who keeps half an eye open here on ocn will notice certain people bashing certain brands nonstop. It goes for all brands not just some and it's childish just like your stupid "do you work for Nvidia" comment.

I agree that AMD needs more marketing so I hope they start rolling... I am from Croatia so I don't know how many times somebody advertises their hardware on tv/radio like Intel, Nvidia or somebody else like OEM's in the world.

If you strip the OS down to its kernel, and then only include the parts of the OS that are needed to play games, it's going to be really fast at playing games. Microsoft already did this successfully once. The original Xbox ran on a Windows NT5 (2000/XP) kernel, with the sections of Windows needed for gaming bolted on. The NT6 kernel (Vista/7/8) has been in use for seven years now and it's both proven and battle-tested. It should perform extremely well when optimized for a gaming-only application.

Well, get used to it, because they're going to be in the Xbox or PS4 whether you want them there or not.

What experience does nVidia have with designing x86 processors? None since the days of the 386, when they designed a short-lived embedded 386 clone. nVidia has never produced an x86-64 processor core, and I seriously doubt that they even have a license to make one. They could have only made a competitive offer with AMD's APU by either working with a company that makes x86 processors, or by using their ARM experience to offer up a Tegra on steroids (assuming any number of ARM cores could even get the job done). What AMD offered was hardware nVidia can't make. If a console maker wants x86 performance and high-end graphics from one vendor, AMD is the only game in town.
