I will never go back...

Thread Starter
I will never go back to 3.5mm ever.

Got my HD 201S in tonight and I plugged them into my computer and noticed that they were ehhh.

I then went to plug it into my TEAC AG-V1050 receiver.

OH
MY
GAWD

Immediate Eargams.
Such a night and day difference.

Anyways never going back to 3.5mm on my desktop.

isnt the headphone jack 3.5mm? i dont see what you are saying. what are the connections?
it doesnt matter if ur receiver is using a diff. jack, as long as your headphones are 3.5 then the sound will be down converted for 3.5 channel

It comes with a 3.5mm to 6.3mm.
It never dawned upon me to actually just get the converter even before getting these headphones. I plugged my headset I currently using(Platronics 367) and they sounded pretty bad while plugged into the receiver.

Guess I worded it weirdly cause I mostly wrote that out of excitement and never did to actually think about what I typed.rolleyes.gif

it's the DA converter and resistor or op-amp in the TEAC receiver that is making the difference.

It'll be the DAC circuit in the TEAC. That and/or a high output impedance as well. It's nothing to do with it being 3.5mm or 6.3mm

My guess is that your using onboard on your PC. You have just noticed the difference between mediocre audio, and Hi-Fi audio biggrin.gif. While I do not know the quality of your receiver, its not hard to imagine its more than likely miles ahead of an integrated audio chipset on a PC.

It does get better, that's the scary part. The HD201's are low end headphones, so if you are happy with the way they sound, you would be blown away by some of the higher end headphones without a doubt biggrin.gif.

Its an old reciever. Very old. Easily late 80's since my folks had it before I was born.
Open for suggestions as far as a receiver and headphones go.

No difference watsoever between 3.5mm and 6.3mm.
Unbalanced signal on both (except for some 6.3 cables) wired the same way, etc.
sorry it isnt the 3.5mm that is making the difference lol
