670 and 680 dilema!! (i guess im back green) - Page 8

Looks like you have chosen to go with a 680. I would have recommended this. The 4GB vs 2Gb VRAM depends on your resolution. 1080p go for the 2GB, higher than that go for the 4GB.

It seems some AMD owners have missed the point of the thread... /facedesk. I own a reference 7970 with an aftermarket cooler and GHZ Bios, I couldn't be happier with it, it's a shame you have had 2 bad experiences with AMD.

Hope you enjoy the 680. Watch out for that voltage lock when overclocking and have fun.

this thread has terrified me ........*** :S
its making me rethink the asus one !!!

And I have never had an issue with an AMD/ATi card, it seems these days you roll the dice, you either get an awesome experience, or the worst experience ever...

I gotta recommend Gigabyte no matter which card you go with. I started with a Gigabyte 7870, then went up to a 7970, sold that and got a 680 which was by far my favorite single GPU setup so far. Eventually I wanted a bit more power and got a good deal on upgrading to 2 670s for SLI. All of these have been Gigabyte with the windforce 3 fans. I chose to stick with Gigabyte because their card is super quiet and never given me any problems even OC'd over long periods of time.

Hope that helps.

I really appreciate you comment...im not bashing amd! I built a pc for my mom and went with a 1055t and radeon 5450 (I believe, cant remember) it was important for me for it to be reliable since my mom lives in Puerto Rico and im in the USA!!!

I love AMD just had to recent bad experiences and decided to give nvdia a try that's all

this card is a gift from my mom for giving her a PC !

i have friends with 7970's and one of the had the same problems as me others had good experiences.....two bad ones is enough for me to try out NVidia again

i will not discard amd on the future but atm i giving a shot to NVidia atm that's all

There are those bashing both AMD and Nvidia in here. It's a shame really. Both companies build genuinely amazing stuff. But it's often the 3rd party providers that turn people away from one or the other.

I didn't mean to sound like I was having a go for you bashing/not bashing amd, but that's just how it came across.

No very, I built a machine with a 7870 from gigabtye, for a friend, same cooler. Maxed it. You can hear it but it wasn't annoying. I replaced the stock cooler on my 7970 because of the high pitched whine that turbine design has.

no i was genuinely appreciating you understanding that i wasnt bashing! any company

i ended up ordering a different 7970 and a 680 so ill return whatever i like less!

7970 got here today and i assume the 680 will be here too before weeks end !

7970 dosnt have ANY coil whine...i cant hear the fans and does 1100/1600 on 1.104 volts (voltage unlocked) 71.60 asic ....my only problem is figuring how to get audio thru the DVI! (i can do it on my 460gtx)

hopefully the 680 is fully functional and quiet and then ill make a decision !

Thanks to everyone that posted!

GTA IV is an invalid benchmark, totally CPU limited, and does not represent a good balance of in game performance, in game performance will be 5-10fps on average slower.

EDIT, missed the part where you use 2560x1440 res. tongue.gif
