Help me choosing Wi-Fi Router + MODEM

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I have been using broadband connection since last one & half year. Currently, I'm using basic DSL modem provided by my ISP.

I'm planning to upgrade to new Wi-Fi Router having in-built modem. Nailed down to below choices. Please help me choosing. Do you guys have any experience with any of these products? Also if you can come up with another better alternative then you are always welcome thumb.gif

1. https://www.asus.com/Networking/DSLN10E/

2. http://www.dlink.co.in/products/?pid=451

3. http://www.netgear.com/home/products/wirelessrouters/simplesharing/dgn1000.aspx

Any help is appreciated! specool.gif

Why do you want a modem + router combo? Selection are limited, upgradablity is restrictive, and you have a single point of failure.

As I told you already, I'm ADSL subscriber so MODEM is required and now I want don't want to pay any further rent to my ISP for MODEM so anyhow I need to buy new MODEM so why not get MODEM cum ROUTER? rolleyes.gif

The one I have currently is pretty old & works fine so I'm not bothered about failure of new one. tongue.gif

...because:
Selection is limited.
Upgradablity is restrictive.
Single point of failure.

The ones you linked are all only 2.4GHz 802.11n. You will probably only be able to do maybe 5-7MB/s if channel bonding works or 3-4MB/s without bonding with those. Today, you should be looking at least 2.4GHz + 5GHz 802.11n for performance+compatibility for the next 5 years.

If you don't care about performance or future standards.... just get whatever is cheapest?

I swear 100% by D-Link products. I have installed countless D-Link Routers, Switches and Access Points and I have never had a single come back or problem with them. I recently changed out a customers old DSL Router because he was getting terrible internet. I put in a D-Link DSL Router, problem solved there and then. In all honesty I would choose D-Link networking products over any other brand any time.
