Should I return my Sapphire HD7870 GE OC?

First of all, I gotta say I came from team green and this card is great for what it's worth. I just feel from the reviewers (getting 1200mhz +, I max at 1150), I feel that the OC could have been more from this particular card. Now I got this card for $219.99 - $15 MIR = $205. Now I have the rebate all ready to go, haven't sent it out yet, but I have cut out the UPC. Can I still return the card to Newegg? even after the MIR is sent out?

Now if I return it what card should I go with? Keep in mind I like the performance I got with the HD7870, around 40FPS on Ultra/FullHD on BioShock Inf, around the same with Crysis 3. I thought about going back to team green. I did think about going with a HD7870 Tahiti LE card for about the same price I paid for the HD7870.

Also keep in mind I have already redeemed BioShock and Tomb Raider, does this make a difference?

Thoughts?

Just found the MSI GTX 660 TI PE is pretty decently priced as well.

Are you going to return the card because it doesn't OC well? It's a silicon lottery and you never know what you get. I feel reviewers get better than average samples. While their 7970s usually pass 1200 MHz, a lot of the 7970s can't get to 1200 MHz even when overvolted.

I would replace it with a 7950 or a 660 Ti, depending on which team you prefer. The PowerColor 7870 LE you linked uses some sort of stock fan, it's a loud card.

OP if you have redeemed the game coupons you will be charged full price for the games. so stick with HD 7870. 1.15 ghz is a decent overclock. not every chip will do 1.2+ Ghz.

Yeah I am probably gonna keep it until the GTX 700 series come out, then re-evaluate.

If you have cut out the upc you can not return it to newegg pretty sure, and as stated by rahgu78 you would be charged for the games. As for your OC is that at stock voltage? I used that same exact card in the last build I sold and could only get 1150 at stock voltage but could get up to 1210 with a small voltage increase. Most people claiming 1200+ either maxed the voltage or got lucky with good silicon

And I am using the EZ version of that 7870 powercolor card in my current personal build, similar to the myst with better cooling. Pretty decent bump in performance from the non Tahiti 7870's especially since I paid $205 for the sapphire and $210 for the powercolor

I'd keep the card, or sell it on OCN and buying the HD7870 LE. I also was a member of the green team for quite a while (9400 GT, GTS 450, GTS 450 SLI, GTX 470, GTX 470 SLI) but my 7950+7970 have not let me down at all, and i'm happy with the cards. I'm not sure if redeeming the games and cutting the UPC would do anything, never made a MIR and i bought my cards just 2 weeks before the Never Settle bundle got released rolleyes.gif

If you're happy with it, keep the current card. The HD 7870 (non-LE) is completely fine. I actually have a Sapphire HD 7870 OC as well, and I can only hit about 1150Mhz as well. It seems to be pretty standard for that card. I also got my card for about $210, so the value on it was tremendous.

Just keep it and enjoy it. It's a great card. wink.gif
