New 3570k wierd crashes

Pre edit: Forgot to include specs
i5 3570k
asrock z77 extreme4
8GB (2 x 4GB) Kingston HyperX 1866
OCZ Octane 256GB SSD

So i just finished building my new machine, and am keen to try out all its bells and whistles.

However, for some reason whenever running prime95, OCCT or IntelBurnTest or any other CPU intensive program (even infinite analysis on fritz chess), my mouse will slowly lag out to nothing and i will end up completely frozen. Sometimes windows even graces me with a "A clock interrupt was not recieved on a secondary processor.." BSOD. Obviously this is annoying considering the time and money put into this machine.

The wierd thing is that all these CPU intensive processes work without a hitch time and time again in safe mode. Im sitting here watching intel burn test thrash my CPU on maximum stress level and i have perfect mouse and keyboard input and there is no lag in sight.

So i went about reinstalling windows as you do, and lo and behold unless in safe mode, the PC refuses to run anything cpu intensive for more than about thirty seconds without a crash.

So, initially I thought it was a bad cpu, but it works in safe mode perfectly so that kind of rules that out. I thought it was a bad driver so i reinstalled windows and nothing has changed so i've kind of rules that out too. Not entirely sure what to do, any similar experiences/ideas?

Thanks

had exactly the same issue, its not the CPU.

What helped for me was reseating the GPU.

Well, my graphics card hasn't come in the post yet, so im running the machine on the intel HD 4000 graphics on the die.
Maybe this is a contributing factor?

Have you update your BIOS to the latest? Sometimes, it would happen if you did not update BIOS.
And, if you're OC'ing ( I assume not since its new build ), put it back into stock..

If that does not help you, one of the bells and whistles could be faulty.

OK well yeah the BIOS is on its latest iteration, everything is running at stock.
It even crashes out when trying to get a windows performance index score.

Thinking of getting a replacement cpu, might wait for the gpu to come see if that changes anything, although I doubt it.

Any more ideas? Apparently this is a common issue when not enough voltage is going to the chip for overclockers, but surely everything at stock should work? maybe i should feed it some extra juice and see if that works? Maybe overclocking it will fix it? Scared to...

try setting the multi yourself to 43 and then try a vcore of around 1.25-1.3 (temps could be high so be careful at first) try 1.2 first actually.

Let me know how that goes. thumb.gif

Just a couple of things, its running off the stock cooler at the moment so I'm not really comfortable running it really hot. This chip was hitting almost 70s in prime at STOCK settings, before it all crashes out. That and if I'm going to send it back to amazon for a replacement I don't want to blow the chip up, as that may harbour my chances of getting a refund wink.gif

I still don't know why it works perfectly in safe mode but not in normal windows. very odd, even with a clean install. Could it be my windows install?

I think today Im going to try ubuntu and windows 8 and see if it runs ok in both of those operating systems.

That happens to me at times too when I am running F@H which is highly cpu intensive, but I dont get the bsod just the freeze up. Have you tried IBT on less than maximum? What is your vcore set at?
