Recommend a micro-ATX case

Thread Starter
Hey peeps,

I'm building a gaming PC from scratch and need some good case recommendations as a starting point for my research.

My requirements:
- water cooling ready
- silent as possible
- compact as possible (for a micro-ATX mobo, no optical drive, one SSD and one 3.5" HDD)
- minimalistic (expansion slots, LCD display, "bells and whistles", etc. are not needed)
- durable and well-built
- budget: 200€
- purchasable from France (with a reasonable shipping fee)

Thanks.

A couple of nice cases to look at would be the Silverstone PS07 which can easily fit a 240 rad 60mm thick in the front and a 120mm in the rear, or the similar Silverstone TJ08-e, which is virtually the same as the PS07 except it can fit a 180 rad in the front.

There's also the Lian Li PC-A04, but to fit a 240 rad in the front it requires you to cut out the bottom of the 5.25" bay, not exactly watercooling ready, but minimal effort to get there.

I'm sure there's a few other ones, but those are just 3 off the top of my head that I was looking at when I was looking for a mATX case to watercool. I personally chose the PS07 white version though.

WC ready is going to be the deciding part.

There are a bunch of nice cases from Lian-Li that you may find a liking to, but some of them have a limited amount of space for WC. I've seen it done before, but it looked like a pain to get them all to fit. (e.g. check out MDPC)

With that being said, you mentioned no optical drive, but do you plan on having a bay res or one of those cylindrical ones?

I've seen good results with the Silverstone TJ08-B cases for WC (so I just bought it) Small package with enough space for a 200mm rad + 120mm rad, 5.25'' bay res, etc.

I think you can order from NCIX, looks like they ship to France

The only reason I want mATX is in case I want to add a sound card. I could give that up for a miniATX, but only if the case is smaller as well—the BitFenix Prodigy looks like a mid-size case.

At a first glance, I see nothing wrong with those Silverstones. They're also significantly cheaper than my budget, so that's nice. I do prefer not having to perform surgery on anything.

This will be my first watercooled PC, so I don't know the significance of radiator dimensions yet, sorry.

If it's a pain to get everything to fit, I guess I'll go with the slightly larger case. As for the reservoir type, I was going to choose it based on whichever one allows for a smaller case. NCIX won't be necessary: http://www.amazon.fr/Silverstone-SST-TJ08B-E-Ordinateur-de-bureau/dp/B005D9027E smile.gif

Those look like full-size cases, thus not compact at all.

hmm

SST-TJ08B-E is about the same size as A05-FNB(matx) or PC-V700

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=578&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=62

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=611&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=62&g=spec

might as well take those.

honestly if you are an audiophile, i think you might not want to water cool your case because it will affect your music experience. A lot people don't know that air passing through radiator in tight spaces create some kind of whining noise.

I am not sure will it affect the performance of your sound car at the same time but highly doubt so.

They are mid tower cases not full tower

What about the HAF XB its not a small case but it does take up less hight then normal cases
