  • Most (not all, but most) of the armor that was released on the Cartel Market when f2p went live were simply reskins of armor that was already in the game. Most of the recent additions are new models, however.
  • Just about all of the armor/weapons on the Cartel Market are essentially cosmetic only.
  • It's not like all the in-game armor looks like trash and only the Cartel Market armor looks good. There's good and bad from both.
  • Subscribers get their monthly allotment of Cartel Coins, so you can still buy things on the Market without spending additional money beyond your sub.
  • Most of the unlocks or items you can buy on the Cartel Market can be found on the GTN (in-game auction house). I've never spent any real money outside of my sub on Cartel stuff and don't plan to, and have still gotten just about everything I've wanted from the market.

So what's the best plan of attack so to speak regarding this game? Just buy a sub and max yourself out and then don't sub anymore after that?

Except ALL of the endgame content requires a subscription.

You might be able to get some of the items from the GTN, but the prices are always so jacked up that buying any item from it will bankrupt you and prevent you from getting any of the other things you need without farming endlessly or buying more cartel points (which would defeat the purpose in the first place).

I wish they had done it just like runescape... or runescape as i remember it. where you could play the game for a good long while and be perfectly satisfied before paying a sub to get extra content. or you can pay the sub right from the get go and still have a ton of fun. I played SWTOR for about a month... mind you i had a 3 month sub.. i just didn't care about the game... and i consider KOTOR to be one of my favorites... it just wasn't the same and I couldn't warrant paying that much for it when i didn't play it like i payed that much for it.... especially in the early levels when realistically there is very little you can do that is worth 15 a month... at least if you ask me.

First off on-topic, It is great to hear it confirmed that it is the second most subscribed MMO now. Really, once we got past the initial F2P patch they have been really working to churn out content and the game feels like it is in a really great place. The devs and CMs are listening and at least responding to their subscribers (even if they dont always agree with you, you can generally get a response on an important issue now), and content wise we have been getting content on a set schedule instead of *soon*.

Regarding the debate that inevitably starts when you bring up this game...

Leveling on F2P is actually about the SAME pace as when the game went live in 1.0 (assuming 0 legacy). You get your mounts at the same pacings and the xp is about on the same scale. What they did, what allow you as a subscriber to level FASTER, and have access to things at a sooner level for convenience. And why not? If you are primarily leveling and paying out 15 a month, you should get something for this. So instead of the negative view that you have that you are leveling slower as F2P (which indicates that they took the bar and raised it for you to make it harder for you to pass over), you should look at it like it is, which is that paying for the game lets you level faster than normal.

Some of the other things are more or less minor inconviences like not being able to rez where you die and instead having to go to the nearest med center. This is really only an issue on some of the less optimized worlds, and really not a noticeable problem until later in the game. And nothing prevents groupmates from rezzing you, so group up and you wont even notice a problem.

Making you pay for the endgame content access was their way of paying for the continued release of content. This is where over 90% of development time goes, so it stands to reason that they would gate you from accessing pvp and operations without paying. However, if all you do is operations, you can actually save money in the long run by paying up for a weekly pass instead of subscribing.

As for the arguments that all cartel market end game gear is hideous and you must buy CM items, this is a matter of opinion. Considering most everything in the game is modable you can reasonably find other looks in the game, without touching the CM. In fact they recently placed items on venders gated by the new reputation system which are either not available on the CM at all, or was available in a different color on the CM (for a limited time only I might add). But even then, as mentioned, you can easily get those same items from the GTN without ever paying out any real money. It is ONLY a drain on your wallet if you MUST have those items on the day of release. Litterally if you wait 1 week the prices get slashed by more than 90% in most cases. The weapons go from 300k down to 2k... and most of the other looks only items see a similar drop. The ONLY things that will maintain a pretty decent price are the mounts and the helmets. Helms will only see about a 50 to 85% price drop (starting at over 2Mil and ending up between 100k to 700k depending on rarity and popularity), and mounts will see a similar drop from starting at 3 to 5mil going down to about 300k to 1mil depending...

Yes, that is a decent chunk of money still, however you can get 400k from running dailies in about 3-4hours time, meaning if there is that ONE item you must have, a 4 to 8 hour grind will land you with those items, and this is strictly because they are REALLY rare to begin with. This is due to the gambling system of the cartel packs, and how you can spend over 100$ on cartel packs and never onces get the item you are looking for. I will take a 4 hour grind over gambling 100$ any day of the week.

Just FYI I am currently only wearing ONE CM item on my character right now. The rest is all stuff you buy from a vender that actually cost me around 2mil FROM A VENDER... so I dare say, if can get most of the CM looks on the GTN for far cheaper than that pricepoint. The one CM item I am wearing cost me 50k for a chestpiece BTW... which was cheaper than the belt that I had to pay 75k for (again from a vender).

I only stopped playing simply because i did not have the time to invest in a game like this, i cancelled my subscription as a result. Having said that, i did have fun playing, it was a good game.

I should pick this back up as soon as the summer holidays start. I played for a month or so when it first launched, then quit mainly because I didn't have enough time for it. I did find it quite enjoyable, even though combat was very generic, the universe made up for it. The story is pretty good for an MMO, and the voice acting as well, unlike GW2's disgustingly dull VA.

You won't go bankrupt unless you only buy the super rare items.
The prices for most of them are pretty cheap , armor parts are sold for ~200-300k a piece ,weapons ~300k , only rare mount or items like Revan's mask cost ~ 2m+(other Revan parts only cost ~50k each however).
I bought a whole armor set for only ~1m2, and that set costs around 11$ on the Cartel Market.
