The OCN Audio subforums feedback thread! - Page 5

I was just saying my opinion... I don't think anyone elses input is invalid or unworthy. I don't feel I am absolutely correct on this matter. If there is enough support for it then go for it.

I have no idea just don't go turning headphones/earphones into 20 clubs because I am sure there are just as many people who feel stat based cans should not be lumped in with normal cans.

I don't think it will come down to that. All of us know that the audio forum isn't the most active, which is the reason that we are trying to make things easier for members to figure out where to go. Hopefully, one day in the near future we will become active enough to need 20 different threads, but I am sure we all realize that is not necessary currently.

Lots of people have IEM's actually, though not necessarily ones with custom fittings or cables. However, I also see equally as many people with stock ear buds from whatever players they purchased. If they go to the IEM forum for feedback on IEM's, the information they get would be a lot more up to date and accurate then from a bunch of people whose primary interests are headphones, but are nice and trying to help. Just my 2 cents of course. Ultimately it will come down to what the moderators are willing to change. Hopefully we will get some additional feedback from Chinesekiwi when he has time to catch up on this thread.

The deeper the sub forums = less to no activity in those subjects less popular where others may not be concerned about. Sometimes a question of this nature gets answered because someone spotted it accidentally not actively looking for it.

In other words, surmounts to less traffic in some areas and more opportunity for members to avoid it all together. Sounds good but the level of members assisting other members may decrease as a result.

Personally whatever happens is fine. That's just my view, to not go too deep or specialized.

Edit - fixed spelling.

Not enough sections means everything gets lumped together and things get buried... pick your poison.

I don't think OCN is the right environment or venue for vinyl. I want to get people started on their journey here. how much information can you expose someone to in the shortest amount of time.

all the sub-forums will start slow. what sub-forums and how many doesn't matter. you need product reviews, tutorials, top 10, giveaways, FAQ like what is a DAC, why do I need one and vs. soundcard

you need to create this content on a regular basis and plug it on the front of the website.

creating a bunch of sub-forums and hoping they grow just isn't enough.

If you guys know some good articles and help guides outside of the ones we currently have, if you could PM the links to me, that would be great. I can try to whip up a more tangible layout that includes links and what not and submit it for consideration by the mods. The more concrete of a layout and plan of action I can provide them, the easier it will be for them to see if something like that could be implemented. Reviews will probably have to come from us. One of the ideas I have been kicking around in my head is an OCN Audio Review Youtube channel where different members submit reviews for the channel.

I've always had that idea for a forum to have its youtube channel and people can submit videos.
Problem with that is that when you do that you are representing OCN as a forum for that review - so if that review is bias (where in a lot of audio reviews, it is very subjective) it causes conflicts and problems.

It shouldn't really be any different then posting the review on OCN in text though. The problem we've had in the past is that people just post their videos here looking for view count, and advertising their channel. Maybe submitting them to an OCN channel could relieve that a bit... but it could be a lot of work for whoever is in charge of the channel.

The other side of the coin is that google in on our side. Lets say that I am trying to look up audio DIY stuff on google....lets say how to rewire headphone cables. I googled how to rewire headphone cables, a thread from overclock.net was 6th while head-fi is first.

Now lets say that we made a tutorial and made it sticky in a DIY audio subforum. I bet you that the tutorial would be right up there with head-fi. Then people will end up join as a new member, ask a couple questions and so on.

I think the actual key for the audio forum is to diversify some, and have the more knowledgeable members make a sticky tutorial for that particular sub forum.

Maybe if we look at the diversification as a tool to attract people with very particular questions (and there are a lot of them since they are on head-fi all the time) then maybe it will significantly increase the number of members.

I don't think being it a different subforum would change the google ranking. More guides like that would be good, but they don't really need a subsection.
