On the topic how about using a hybrid pad? I think they combine the best out of soft/hard pads. You might think about one of the pads in my review.

Cloth in general is best for fps gaming. Name me 1 good professional fps player that uses a hard pad, I've been there, done that. If you ever want to be good you'll end up going back to cloth, trust me. Qck heavy is the way to go, can't go wrong

Also, ive seen DRG and Naniwa use hardpads.

Always used the hard stuff, makes me want to test the new cloth.
