XP extremly slow startup - Page 2

Highly-Annoyed: I downloaded everything from the page (Good page btw) after I've ran each program I rebooted and ran the next one rebooted and so on, still the problem is harassing me, laughing at my face. I dont think the problem is caused by the Registry anymore after running all thoose programs .

So any more ideas? anyone? Anything is welcomed now even if it means re-installing Windows.

You sure you didn't buy a corrupted version of windows xp? Problems like this usually consist of fake versions or pirated versions of windows.

What I can sugggest has already been suggested by some of the posters so I'll just quote.

Failing this, you might have some luck speeding up your boot times
with Microsoft BootVis, also on the same page linked to in my sig.

Also, one last thing, why would you tweak windows when your version isn't working correctly? I mean it just doesn't make sense to mess around with settings and stuff when like you say, your having problems with booting, and how fast it loads, I would also recommend taking those tweaks you did, off.

I've used this very same XP CD for what is it at now.... hmmm.... about 5 installations of Windows on this very same computer, but yesterday this problem occurred. I dunno, maybe it was just a one time thing, it would be nice to know the solution for this though.

Now here's the thing, how was I supposed to know that this time Windows wasnt gonna work? When the installation was complete Windows booted as it should, in 10-15 seconds... when I had installed all drivers it booted as it should, HOWEVER after that I stopped rebooting after everything, I downloaded Windows updates (if I remember correctly) installed 3dmark06 to get latest DirectX version, applied tweaks, rebooted, BAM problem is now there. Once again I really dont think thoose tweaks can cause this kind of problem. I used 1 of thoose tweaks (faster shutdown) on my earlier installment of Windows and it worked perfect. You cant blame me for wanting to try stuff out and learn its effects. Of course I know messing with Registry can cause problems, Im aware of that risk. But as I said it would be nice to know the solution to this problem in chase anyone else gets it so I could help them.

Well I did it the chiken way and re-installed Windows, it works alot better now, however I did a comparison this time step by step on how long it takes to boot. It a few seconds when you've installed Motherboard Drivers, Graphic Drivers, Updated Windows. And then after installing a few programs I got to ZoneAlarm, man that program sure increases the boot time. From a few seconds to about 20 seconds.

Well as I said everything works better now... thanks everyone who replied and tried to help me.

Go into ur start menu then when u see run click it, type MSCONFIG then go to the startup bar and untick what u dont need, these are the files that slow ur comp down mASS!! also download a program called BOOTVIS this is prob the best program to help ur comp boot up and shut down at max speed, cheers

Well He has Confirmed that he has performed a registry Edit and that its a clean Install of the OS. I doubt its anything to do with startup programs but most likely to a problematic registry. I would Advise at looking to your system log for errors. Go into Control Panel and the into Admin tools . From here go to Events and under that go to system...Any issues will be logged there.

I think that mite be your problem there. Not rebooting when you should. And now some parts of the reg is corrupt. Windows is picky, lol.

What to do: Well, re-install windows, see if the problem persits before installing anything. Then install all the stuff you installed last time and restart the PC everytime.

This happened to a friend of mine before, what I said above solved it. The problem was the reg in the end.

If I remember it correctly yes, I dont remember if I rebooted or not. What about you Eska? Did you do something similiar? Or did you do a clean installation with no problem and then it occurred after some time?

I've already re-installed my OS, so I cant try anymore suggestions, all I can say is... it works now.
