MegaTechPC Presents: SLI GTX Titan vs CF R7970! - Page 7

Because the performance is not there.... I mean to play 1080P you dont need a 1k gpu do you?

Now if i want to shell out 1k on gpu my aim would be higher than that..

Guess what? You need 2 titans not 1 so if you look at it that way the 2k worth of gpu to play 1 or 2 games in a period of 2 years is not a good investment..

So down the road WHEN actually you need the performance there would be cheaper alternatives.

I mean if you are ok to play console ports with an 2k investment gpu alone, thats fine with you .....ok then ...

My 2 cents.

He probably doesn't care because the Veyron is sexy as hell.

I didn't buy the titan to have a larger ePeen, I bought it because it is the strongest single card available. Will likely still be the strongest card with next generation releases as well.

We have heard your 2 cents on the subject about 211 times. We know you think its a bad investment, and I hope to god you didn't buy one.

Titan is an awsome card. I would buy it if I had only a single 1440p monitor but I need 4 x cards because I have 8044x1440 resolution.

I don't see the point of buying 4 x Titans when 4 x 7970s is equal in performance (or a little weaker but for half the price)for huge resolutions.

4 x 7970s with waterblocks cost 2,000$. 2 x Titans on air cost 2,200$

I'm sure you hope that that turns out to be true. However it's been two years for tahiti, thus I'd expect a sizable gain on its replacement.

I do, but even if it isn't, it will only be by a small margin.

Besides I'd be more impressed if the 7970 stays this close to titan after the runt frame driver update in June.

And on yet another side note, I sincerely hope the 8970 gives the titan a run for its money, so I don't need to shell out another thousand dollars for top performance next time. Because, I'm not sure if it has been mentioned, but the thousand dollar price tag on the titan was overpriced.

Great review!

Seems Overclocked Tri fire 7950s will equal 2 Titans.

Thats what i did when bought my 2nd card to downsample from 1440P or 1530P to 1080P..
Instead of spending 1k on gpu i just pair it and get up to 30% over a single titan for much less money.. But then we find out cfx is a placebo and yada yada XD

Even with the waterblocks for both cards....

See the difference is before titan there was a dream around overclock.net about 120hz 4k resolutions and yada yada yada then crysis 3 came alone lol...
Im more realistic 1080P close to 60avg is fine with me.. Anything extra over that is a gain...

Now when single 4k tvs are more accessible and more mainstream then we should have this conversation again XD.

I don't know why it wouldnt, they have the exact same memory bus width.

Because the runt frames are artificially raising the raw FPS 7970s are getting from poor drivers or bios?

I'm all for those cards, all for competition but the runt frames thing is a pretty big deal, so lets see how they deal with it, max performance numbers will drop in the new update for the 7970. But it SHOULD increase its real max performance.
