Needing an ATX upgrade for gaming

I plan on upgrading my 12 ton original model of the Dell XPS730. I already have 4 gigs of ddr3 memory and replaced the 9800gt with a Radeon HD 5770 dual fan model. Now I'm wanting to know which ATX motherboards are good for gaming future and having a faster computer overall for a reasonable price. I plan on upgrading to a cheaper i5 than the more new models because they are way above my price range for now. All I know right now is I have a Wolfdale with Nvidia nforce 790i with an Intel Core2 Duo e8400.

Currently you are better off waiting for the next socket. 1150 is just around the corner and 1155 is dead.
You can probably pick up an 1150 board and an i3 for $200 at microcenter, which will serve you better than a first gen i5.

Why would I get an i3? I could just get an e8600 and why would I want an 1150? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.thumb.gif

i have to back up going with 1150, and if you cant handle saying i have an i3, then get an 1150 i5 but yor better off with an 1150 + i3 than 1155 + i5

EDIT: i will say that saying you have an i3 is not the best feeling in the world, my friend has a 2nd gen i3 and it works great for him gaming, but he dosnt like to say he has an i3. but i still suggest waiting for 1150 and haswell. even in three years if that i3 cant cut it, you can get a 4th or 5th gen i5 or i7

EDIT #2: this video from the well know linus tech tips shows with real life benches that he actually shows you that an i3 is plenty for gaming if you have a descent graphics card. plus i3's have hyper threading which will behave like a quad core processor to windows. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4PDoy-mi0A
