Think i messed up... Again.

Backstory
I'm working my career in computer IT and one thing i'm starting to learn is microsoft business server. Well i've been running my computer happily with my kingston hyperx's 4x2 9-9-9-24 1333 sticks.

Requirements.
Businesserver needs atleast 8 but recommends 12.

So i purchased G.SKILL Sniper Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-16GBSR $133.98

When i'm now looking at it and understanding more that less ram sticks can be better for stability and overclocking, but we're talking a server so we want stability and OC comes last if it all. And a deal this weekend is for a slower set but their 8G sticks themselves

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM
$119.99

So did i mess up or?

First, you need ECC server memory instead of desktop memory. Second, you didn't mess up, except the other thing stated.

i don't know why not. I would keep in mind that is probably 12 GB in full use, which for testing purposes might not happen?

And for testing i'm not running an ACTUAL work enviroment server so crashes from time to time could be acceptable. The answer i'm looking for is just a surface question. Faster ram over 4 sticks or slower over 2?
