GTX 660 Worth it? - Page 2

Thread Starter
I run dual monitors and both are at 1080 resolution. I dont really plan on upgrading my displays at all or atleast for awhile. I am just stuck between getting the MSI or the EVGA. It seems OCN likes the Twin Frozr cards more than the EVGA. Also, keep in mind, I am also getting a FX8350 Vishera and a new MoBo Gigabyte 990FX

I own a N660GTX-Ti PE 2GD5/OC and ran it @ 1080p before I got a N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC....
check the reviews, it's the third or fourth fastest clocked from manufacturer but overclocks the best on OEM BIOS.

I would love that. Here is my cart on Newegg.com. http://secure.newegg.com/Shopping/ShoppingCart.aspx?submit=ChangeItem I wonder if that link will show you. Does anyone know the difference between 1600 and 1866 RAM. Is it worth the price difference?

Pretty useless upgrade in my opinion, you might consider a GTX 670

I'd say buy the 660Ti and once you feel the need to upgrade again you could always buy another one for SLI, they scale really good. And by the time you need to buy another one the card will be cheaper.

Should I get the MSI Twin Frozr or the EVGA?

I have a GTX560 TI Twin Frozer edition and I must say that the cooling on the card is really good but with the fans on 60-70% it gets real noisy.

Never had a EVGA card but from what I've heard their customener is way better then MSI (which I have no experience with since I never needed a RMA for any MSI product I own).

I was considering getting a GTX 670 and cutting back on the RAM. I only have 4 GB right now (2x2GB Ripjaws 1600). Do you think it would hurt if I get the same memory (2x4GB) and just run 12 GB of RAM that way I can splurge and get the GTX 670?

Not sure if you'll be interested, but if you don't want to shell out for a Ti / 7950 and don't want something as weak as a 660, then I think it's Tahiti LE to the rescue (basically a 7930).
PC 7870 EZ is $244 right now with a $30 rebate. Considering how close it is in performance to a 7950 for that price...it's pretty ridiculous and it comes w/ Bioshock + Tomb Raider.

if your talking about gaming then you need no more then 8GB of RAM...
now if you video encoding and other stuff and need the extra RAM then that's another thing.
and I said this earlier as it's been echoed, the GTX 670 is the better move.

I think I can shell out the money for the MSI 660ti and OC it. This chart says you can OC the 660ti to run at basically a GTX680 stock speeds. I think the 660ti paired with the FX8350 would be a huge upgrade over the 965BE and the GTX470. Does anyone disagree or think there is a better setup for the price?
