RESSURECTION

After my mother board died, I decided it was time to do a revamp on my rig. Still haven't decided on exactly what to contain it in, but already have some parts and doing some work on the components. Some are used, some are new / old stock, and some are totally new. I'm sure it will evolve as I go and hope to receive information and suggestions that will help along the way!

Components List
-AMD X8 8350 w/ XSPC Raystorm Waterblock
-AsRock 990FX Extreme 9
-Asus Sabertooth 990FX Gen3/R2.0
-OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB SSD
-G.skill Ripjaws 2133 cl9
-Sapphire HD 6990 w/ EK FC6990 Waterblock
-Seasonic X Series Gold 750
-WD Caviar Blk. 1 TB HDD
-Asus Bluray Burner/ Multi Drive
-Logisys 6 Channel Fan Controller
Xygmatek 75 in 1 Card Reader
-2 D5's
-2 XSPC Dual Bay Res.'s
-XSPC RX360 Rad
-Swiftech MCP 320 Rad
-Various Tubing and Fittings

I am in fact adding a second dedicated cooling loop for the notoriously hot 6990. The 1 D5 and res. are new. The 6990 is brand new along with the EK waterblock. The AsRock Extreme 9 is new and should be here by the end of the week. I also have 2 120mm rads that I haven't used and wonder if they may somehow make there way into my new rig. I am probably going to substitute a DD Rad Res for one of the dual bays and also have a micro res on hand. All of the rads are going to be cooled using Delta WFB1212's.

As you can see I have a lot of different components that can be interchanged. I'm also looking to fabricate a custom vrm waterblock for the mobo. This should prove to be a interesting journey and transformation. I am going to try and provide plenty of pics and narration along the way.

Thanks! Yes, I've been pricing copper blocks and have access to a mill. I am a shop foreman, welder and fabricator by trade. The mobo has a very clean vrm layout and should only require 2 drilled, tapped, and milled blocks.

thumb.gif This is going to be a good build to watch. When you say custom loop, you REALLY mean custom loop.

Received my new motherboard on Wednesday. Unfortunately, all the usb back panel connectors were dead. I had rma it back to Newegg and after considering the quality or lack there of, I decided to take store credit over a replacement. The small heatsinks and overall quality seemed cheap. I believe I'm going to go with the new Sabertooth 990FX Gen3/R2.0. Just came in stock at Newegg. I will have to wait a week or two before I can expect to receive it though. I will need that time to figure out how to house this beast. Luckily I'm in the middle of changing jobs and will have a few days off next week before starting the new one on Monday.
I received my second D5 and XSPC dual res. and it tested great. Also got the 75 in 1 card reader and my rma Sabertooth Rev.1 back today as well. I will be using that motherboard for the time being.

Got almost everything together this weekend for testing. Thankfully everything went pretty good!

Just cracked the card. Came apart a lot easier than I expected

Here it is all cleaned up!

And viola! Cutting and placing the thermal strips was a pain. But the Antec Formula 7 was worse, until I heated it up in a plastic bag in warm water. Learned that trick using Gelid Extreme.

Card installed. I love the way it looks!

I am half ashamed to show this, but it's only temporary for testing. Yes, there are 9 delta's in that picture with more to come. Definitely need to insulate. I believe the 2 d5's are louder than the fans though.

I have a couple days off this week and am hoping to get some work done on a custom case.

After an unexpected trip for work, I finally have a couple days to get some work done. Here are some Cinebench scores done on the test setup. I'm really happy with the performance and cooling

Got a surprise in the mail to take this thing over the top. Dedicated PhysX card, watercooled of course. Have to wait to post a pic. Getting my new phone this morning.
