Buying New Graphics Card

Thread Starter
I am considering getting a new GPU within the next year, and I want to get something good for gaming and that will last me a long time. Price is not a big deciding point for me, but I do not want to pay $400 more for a card that will give me an extra 2 fps. I was leaning towards the nvidia titan and later down the road adding another one. I want something that will be able to smoothly run games that come out in the next year or two maxed. Maybe even a card that will come out later this year (if there are any).

What would you guys suggest?

If you can afford a titan and plan on getting a second, get a titan. A single titan will prove to be a very smooth experience.
If these recent frame time tests have taught us anything, It's that the 7990 is not everything it's hyped up to be.

And I hope you are running some godly resolution. 1080p with a titan is just not right.

If you have the money then get a Titan, it will offer the smoothest gaming experience money can buy. A cheaper option would be to get two 7970s which will offer better performance but with all these frame time tests that have been released, it won't be anywhere near as smooth. I'm not quite sure I buy into it all though, when I've used two 7970s it seemed perfectly fine. As said above, you better not be running at 1080p wink.gif If you are a single 670/7950 will be enough.

I would go GTX 580/680 SLI or 7950/7970 CF and beat a Titan at half the price. Course, 2 Titans would beat those right back, but it's your choice on that.

I just ordered a 670 4gb and love it. to me I am not partial to amd or NVidia really. if you want the best bang for your buck pick up two 7850 and cross fire them or just pick up a 7950 and pick up another later on and cross fire then

Why not? Would a single 670 perform the same as a titan on all games present and future in 1080p?

I really want a single card that can blow everything away. Later down the road, when that single card starts lagging behind, I can always add another one.

Thanks for all the replies. It is a big investment for me, and not one I want to make often wink.gif.

Well, yeah pretty much. A single 670 can max out most games at 1080p. Also, what's the point on spending $1000 on a graphics card that you'll only be using 40% of because that's all that's need to drive a 1080p screen.

It can max out most games, but some of them, not at a comfortable framerate.

7950 all the way thumb.gif they provide an excellent price to performance ratio, while not being super hot cards (temp wise), and they are only 3-6% slower than the far higher priced 7970, and a simple over clock can get you that extra speed! I'd honestly want the 7970 for the extra power that you get straight out of the box, and the fact that they are even better to water cool, but its up to you in the end! I vote MSI Twin Frozr 7950/ 7970 biggrin.gif
