RX360 and EX280 not enough

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I just want to start off by saying thanks for all the great members on this forum that posted so many informative informations about watercooling. I've been lurking around on this site for a long time and thanks to you guys, I finally built my first watercooling system. But here is my problem:

ill start off by listing my parts that matters:
i7 3930k - 4.5ghz 1.352 volts - EK Supremacy waterblock
Asus DCII 7950 - Swiftech 7950 Komodo
Asus x79 Maximus Gene
Midi r2 case
XSPC rx360 with push/pull Noctua nf-f12 on top of case
XSPC EX280 with push/pull Noctua nf-a14 front of case
1/2" ID Tubings
Distilled water with silver kill coil
Swiftech MCP350 Pump with EK DDC-X Top

The loop goes, res--pump--gpu--rx360--cpu--ex280--res

Abiment temp in my room is usually 22c-26c. Idle temps for cpu is 29C-34C and for GPU is 30C-33C

So when I run Prime95 big stress on my cpu, max temp would be 82 on one of the core after an hour and the radiators get super hot. The top of the case would get hot cause of the heat being pushed out from the radiators. This is with the fans being set at 7v but even when i set it to 12v, it seriously made no difference. I even drained my system and try reseating the CPU water block and it made absolutly no difference. The contact surface is actually awesome.

Now for the GPU, i ran furmark for half hour and my max temp was 57C. Which i thought was really good. But when i started playing SC2 for about and hr or more, the GPU would get all the way up to 82C!!! and my computer system feels like an oven! My CPU temp would get around the 75C~ mark too.

As for Air flow, I have the EX280 infront pulling air in as an intake and the RX 360 pulling air out as an Exhaust. I also have a 140 fan in the back as an exhaust.

I guess my question is, are the radiators not enough or the pump is not strong enough?? I tried reseating the GPU and CPU block twice and it made no difference.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

From what i can see, it seems like your only intake is from your EX280 and it is pushing hot air into your case and feeding your RX360.
It doesnt help to reuse the hot air from one rad to another and to make things worst, your case is in negative air pressure.
You can either try to flip that 140mm fan to intake or change the RX360 into a intake, that way you get fresh air into both your rads.
The thing that strikes me is that you ran furmark with a max temp of 57C on your GPU but you get to 82C on SC2?? that is just odd.
You definitely have more than enough rads.

I think that it could be hot air, but unless you have some seriously over powered components and not enough rad, the air won't heat up too much going through a radiator unless it's super thick (80mm). Keep in mind that if you have positive pressure, that you'll have far less dust given that the intakes are filtered smile.gif set it up as positive pressure, and report back!
P.S- Post pics of this, wanna see your rig pretty badly rolleyes.gif I've got a 7970 Komodo and they look slick

thanks for the reply guys.

oddly, my first setup was a positive pressure. I had the top and the front as intake. now I have the front as intake and top as exhaust but it made little to no difference. yes the furmark thing is very odd.. I set the furmark setting to 2560X1600 with 8X MSAA too.

I will try to post pics soon when I clean up the the wiring part of it.

A 360 and 280mm rad is plenty for his CPU and GPU. Couple notes:

Change your rear exhaust to a rear intake to feed air directly into the 360mm rad (assuming it's up top) that will help a bit. Also I'd probably set the 280 to exhaust as a test. Do you have other fan mounts that you aren't using such as a side panel? If you're sure the CPU/GPU mounts are good, make sure there are no air bubbles in the blocks. Since yours aren't acrylic (I believe but maybe not) it may not be possible to just look inside and check. Try gently rocking your case back and forth while the pump is running and listen to it to see if you hear the sound of bubbles moving through the pump, which means you're managing to get air out of pockets in the loop and hopefully they'll end up in the reservoir. Photos of your loop/build would help in giving more accurate troubleshooting

AMD and Nvidia drivers throttle current cards in furmark. Loop Heaven 3.0 or something if you need a GPU temp. Temps wise, I'd really like to see a picture of this setup.

Hi guys,

i uploaded a photo of my rig in my profile (please ignore the wiring, its a big mess right now. the tube is not touching the GPU btw if anyone is wondering). Yes, I've shaken the case many times till i don't hear or see air bubbles anymore and I also left the pump running for at leas 24 hours. The pump is completely silent now ( the whole rig is, thats what i was aiming for.). But there are still micro bubbles in the reservoir but from what i read, micro bubbles in reservoir shouldn't matter too much. I will try your guy's suggestion and will update. Thanks a lot guys.

I'll just put this here:

LL

I would guess there might be a blockage in one of your radiators or something. That setup, while cramped, should have no real problem. The top radiator alone is enough to cool all of that.
Couple of notes from the picture:

Is your GPU sagging that much? The photo makes it look like it's sagging incredibly low.
That top radiator seems to be too big to use where you're using it to me personally, though I don't know how/if that is/could be affecting performance.
Honestly the whole thing just seems weird to me with that thick rad up top.
