First time ATi/AMD after several years, advice appreciated

Thread Starter
I figured that it was about time to let my GTX 480 rest, since I pushed it to 900MHz on the core and 2300 on the memory on air for quite some time now and the card is really starting to show its age despite the overclocks, so I ordered a brand new Gigabyte HD 7970 OC from a local store for the silly price of just 300$.

This being my first time with an ATI or AMD card in years, I wanted to see if I was missing anything here(Sweep old driver, plug in new card, install the drivers). Are there any precautions to take? Anything I need to know?

The newest drivers are the best as the improvements in performance have been monumental with the 7000 series.

If your using Windows 7 - i would use atiman uninstaller instead of Driver Sweeper - i think its safer. Right now 13.3 is the newest Beta and seems to be the fastest.

Most 7970s can overclock to 1100-1150mhz pretty easily - and since you have a Gigabyte, its probably voltage locked - but if you visit the owners club i think they found a way past it (new BIOS or something)
