Ram/Motherboard Question

I have a Sabertooth Z77 board and im about to get RipjawsX F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL. I read some reviews saying that I wont be able to set them at 2133 unless all 4 memory slots are being used. Anyone know anything about this?

I have never heard of this. There is no reason why this would be true either. I have almost the same RAM and it clocks to 2133 on my FM2 board just fine.

According to the ASUS website, the max speed the Sabertooth can handle is DDR3-1866.

It does handle 2133 fine. would I be able to get a bit better overclock with the new RAM? Im using two sticks of 1600 from an old tri channel set right now.

You would be able to get much better RAM speeds, although I recommend the Ripjaws Z or Trident X as they have better IC's and have more headroom IME.

I was looking at the Trident X. I can get the Ripjaws for $20 cheaper so im going to stick with those. I always get fairly cheap RAM, I guess if I dont know what im missing by buying the best then thats alright.
