So if AMD can deliver that then they are back in the game after Intel sabotaged them through illegal rebates and threats towards OEM's and shops. So people were really just limited with their choice and that choice was to buy an inferior product.

AMD now has an upper hand against Intel with their Jaguar - "Temash" for tablets that offer superior performance, the near monopoly on mainstream console's, then Kaveri that will introduce HSA and would be a great AMD's ace on laptops and low budget builds and if Steamroller can be on the same level and even beat Ivy Bridge then I can assure you that AMD will gain some significant market share...

Dude...Ivy is more then 30% faster per clock/per core then PD...... And you also have to remember that they both clock the same...

PD also didn't improve as much as expected, 15% was touted around and on average it was less then that.

It does seem like my i7-3615m @ 3.3GHz is faster than my fx-6300 @ 4.5GHz... But in highly threaded applications the fx6300 annihilates the i7.

Steamroller based Kaveri APU, FX CPUs and Opteron CPUs will be manufactured at Globalfoundries 28nm. Jaguar based Kabini / Temash will be manufactured at TSMC 28nm. I think Steamroller based products will be hampered by GF 28nm process. the 28nm bulk process cannot provide 32nm SOI level transistor performance. At the same manufacturing node AMD needed SOI to keep up with Intel's bulk process based transistor performance. Steamroller is the first high performance core with high clock speed requirement (> 3.5 Ghz clocks) manufactured on a bulk process ever by AMD. Unless AMD has changed plans and pulled off a miracle by designing and manufacturing Steamroller based products on ST Micro's 28nm FDSOI (which has been licensed to GF), the results are going to be underwhelming.The process is going to be the biggest handicap. The 14XM process by GF due for late 2014 / early 2015 should be able to unlock the true potential of AMD Excavator based products.

just outta curiosity I wondered how FX-8350 stood up against the older gen Intel Core series i5-750 to i7-880
and found some benches with a good review, gaming and multi-tasking.
