pretty soon console ports will be multi threaded (720 and PS3 eight core) so AMD will be right near the top, no need to spend an arm and a leg on intel for 5 more FPS tongue.gif

An FX8350 is the same price as a 3570k in the UK wink.gif

Why buy a FX8350 and only have great performance in highly threaded games and applications when you can buy a 3570k and get great performance no matter what the game or application and no matter how many threads they use thumb.gif

most new games are multithreaded.... and the 8350 is pretty much on par with the 3570k in gaming, cept for those horrible ports (skyrim) and SC2.... other than those can you find me NEW games that are dual threaded??? there really isnt any...

not to mention, come steamroller time I dont need a new mobo, I hate intel for changing their socket so much

They will if they are designed from the get go to. Since the ps4 and xbox 720 are based on this, it wouldn't be hard to believe that the ports to the PC will also do it.

Anyways I was a original Fx buyer, 8120 clocked it to 4.9ghz under water, and its been good to me. Yes its not the best solution for most folks, but my workloads it is quite a bit faster than the 2500k it was priced against. I already had the motherboard, and a 1055T. So i dropped in just a new cpu and it was worth it for my coding compiles, and video encoding.

I skipped over pile-driver seeing it didn't really offer that much more, despite what AMD praisers will tell you. Honestly I was thinking about switching over to haswell 4770k to be exact when it came out. I guess I will just wait and see what SteamRoller has to offer, as again i won't have to upgrade the motherboard.

Anyways Bulldozer< Steamroller supposely another 23-25% faster than piledriver in IPC. If this rumor is to be true the Steamroller chips will offer pretty stellar mutithread performance and make good gains in IPC. I'm not to worried about single thread performance anymore, anything that is single threaded already runs like a champ on todays processors.

The only reason games don't have proper support for multi-threaded is because developers haven't up with the technology, now that next generations consoles have 8 cores, there will be paradigm shift in the programming techniques, they'll be coded such that the processing will be naturally distributed among all the available cores.

I doubt it, You'll find they'll still end up using some of the cores for the OS and graphic tasks like they have done in every other console before.

You'll be lucky if you get 5 cores for pure game code, the other will be used for the OS and stupid things like back face culling...

They're consoles and there's never been a console where a CPU has only ever been used as a CPU.

Making games use 8 cores =/= not needing strong cores.

Games are pretty hard to code so that they'll use tons of threads efficiently. You'll still need strong single thread performance even if some parts of the game can be offloaded to other cores. It's not like the programmers at game studios can hit a button to make a game run better on a multi-core CPU. Also even if games could theoretically 100% take advantage of all the cores on a FX8350 that does not mean that it would match a 3770K or beat a 3570K by a big margin.

Also good to note that current consoles already have CPUs that can be described as very much multi-threading oriented. The cell with its 6 (or 7, I can't remember) SPEs and the Xenon has 3 full cores (6 logical). Moving to 8 slow cores isn't going to be that much of a change as people are saying.
