SLi support, (can still use AM3 chips too rolleyes.gif ) why is it where ever you post its always negitive? do you not agree this is a positive for AMD? don't forget my friend, without AMD your precious intel chips would bearly improve and you'd be paying even more for them...

and yes, there are LOTS of new games that benefit from more than 4 cores... stop being so close minded, I know you love intel but there is others out there... smile.gif

You guys arguing over the performance (seems to be the usual bunch of Intel advocates) are forgetting that future games are going to be OPTIMIZED for the AMD architecture. Common sense should tell you that alone will make a good difference in AMD's favor.

So what makes everyone think that especially the CPU of the PS4 (and the xbox 360 most likely) is close enough to high end AMD designs that it will matter in any significant amount?

To quote tom's/AMD on what is actually inside the PS4:
Quote:
"At the most basic level, an APU is a single chip that combines general-purpose x86 central processing unit (CPU) cores with a graphics processing unit (GPU) and a variety of system elements, including memory controllers, specialized video decoders, display outputs, etc.," he said. "Our semi-custom solutions take the same treasure trove of graphics; compute and multi-media IP found in our APUs, and customize them for customers who have a very specific high-volume product that could benefit from AMD’s leading-edge technologies."

the APU will consist of eight x64 AMD "Jaguar" cores and a next-generation Radeon GPU comprised of 18 "compute units" capable of cranking out 1.84 teraflops. This chip will be backed by 8 GB of unified GDDR5 RAM (17 GB/sec of bandwidth), a built-in HDD, USB 3.0, a Blu-ray optical drive, Gigabit Ethernet, Wireless N and more.

First of all, Jaguar is very much a different design compared to BD/PD and ever SR and no one is running Jaguar as their gaming CPU on a desktop PC, secondly it seems to me like the chip is quite customized, including a bunch of parts for specific purposes.

yep, .61 fps more. but look again at the first pass:

the 12.09 fps of the i7 would more than certainly make up for it.

and you have to do the first pass before the second, no?

Devs usually design games on consoles to work best with the hardware the consol uses correct?

so if they made a straight port to pc it would be a multithreaded game and utilize more cores...

Because most PC games are ports from game consoles. Now that both X-box and PS4 are AMD 8 core cpu-based , all ports from these consoles will automatically be optimized for 8 core CPU.
