Getting a new video card, need some input - Page 5

So I got the OC to this now:

core voltage @ 1.25V
power limit @ +20%
core clock @ 1100MHz
memory clock @ 1500MHz

Seems stable so far. Idle temps are around 29-31 Celsius and I was playing Bioshock Inifinte on ultra and highest I saw was 60 Celsius and was averaging around 110 fps.

This card is ridiculous.

Indeed it is, if it can't muster higher clocks with that voltage. biggrin.gif Try 1200Mhz, it really should be able to get higher. Did you use GPU-Z to monitor the voltage? Last time i heard, Sapphire's 7970's were locked at 1.25V.

I'm using GPU-Z to monitor voltages, yes. Out of the box it was at 1.05V so I bumped it up to 1.25V. I just did a furmark benchmark (for 15 minutes) and at the clocks I had above it was stable. @ 1080p and 2xMSAA I was getting around 45-50 fps and highest temp was 65 Celsis.

I'll try a burn-in at 1200 MHz to see what happens.

Also, I'm running MSI Afterburner 3.0.0 Beta 9 and Catalyst Control Center; any clocks I do in AB don't actually do anything according to GPU-Z. Only CCC seems to actually change the clocks.

So I'm not sure whats going on now but I'm not stable at 1100 core clock. 1000 is fine, anything above that, I crash.

voltage is bumped up to 1.25V, I have power limit to +20% and 1500 on mem clock. What the deuce.

EDIT: I got something: 1045 core clock, 1600 mem clock. Could it be it's drawing too much power from my PSU and its failing to OC because of that? I only have a 650W psu.

It could just be a dud of a card, it happens. What brand is your PSU?

It probably is, which sucks, but oh well. I'm getting around 100-110 FPS in Bioshock Infinity which I think is pretty good.

The max you can draw on a 7970 is around ~300w so I feel like it is not the PSU, but that depends on the CPU, its overclock and everything else as well,

Here's my rig: http://www.overclock.net/lists/display/view/id/5106804

I was at 1045core/1600 memory and 1.25V for a while now, but it started crashing on me, so I went back to 1000 and 1500 which seems to be the most stable I can get.
