In that case, I'd say it's 99% likely that it's either a customer return, or the box was damaged. In either case, I'm sure the board still has a warranty and whanot.
To me, open item/OEM are good deals. Since you are still warrantied, you don't often lose much - so why not save some money in return for not getting a pretty box
(Yes, sometimes open box also means you miss out on some cables, depending - but personally, I've got plenty of them laying around as it is
