If you're just looking to use up as money as possible without going for a GTX 690/Hd7990/GTX titan, the HD7970GE Vapor-X 6GB $583.99

I would recommend a Sapphire 7970 since they are voltaged locked, I have the Duel X version and it runs nice and cool and OC very well.

I second that recommendation as I have had nothing but good luck with the Sapphire GPUs. I am trying a XFX right now but I think I like my old Sapphire better.

If youre really REALLY looking to spend most of that budget - then the only real option is the Asus Matrix Platinum 7970 if you can find it - most overclock to 1200mhz+ pretty easily. An MSI Lightning is also a great choice, but unfortunately only comes with Single Link DVI outputs - so no go if you wanna upgrade to 1440p resolution.

Matrix cards generally overclock better than Gigabyte Windforce and/or Sapphire VaporX from what ive seen - and come with 2 DVI outputs (1 is only SL though)

If i were you, id save a bit and get a Gigabyte WF cheap and upgrade next cycle - it should run all games at 60fps easily, and the select few that push it hard - lower the settings a bit
