I have $500 for a GPU (REDUX) - Page 3

I disagree with your decision. I personally switched from 2x6950 to one 670 and my experience has been waaay better with green. Your mileage will vary but don't expect crossfire to ever get fixed if you go amd. It has been hit or miss and probably won't every be a smooth as sli.

Damn, I just wish there was a straight answer! I'm going to watch Game of Thrones now, and take my mind off this for awhile.

I'm hoping that if I do go that way crossfire will have better support down the road, because I can't see the one 7xx series card outperforming 7970s in crossfire.

Depends on the game but PCPerspective have tested it and found on 50% of the games they tested, the 2nd card in Crossfire is a waste as it does not gain you any performance, just stutters all over the place. They found one card to be the best experience. AMD has claimed they will have a fix out, but not for a few months atleast. I give them 3. First they had a memory management issue, that they claimed to fix with some of the newer releases of drivers, now its the discovery that crossfire is FUBAR.

Why do you think they never made a reference 7990 till now, and it wont release till crossfire is functioning correctly? Because they have finally come to the conclusion that their crossfire is broken for a lot of users in a lot of games.

AMD have stepped up their game driver wise in the last half year or so, I can't see why they wouldn't be working on a fix for the Crossfire issue.

There's a third option and straight answer, unfortunately though Nvidia charge $1k for it at the moment

Yeah what a waste. Go play on eyefinity with 1 7970. You will see then how useless is a second 7970:rolleyes:

Jumping on conclusion so fast( second card is a waste) is bad for our brains.
The new memory management code is not released yet.

Well red or green multi GPU is always going to have more issues then single card solutions. That's just the way it is. I ran two 4890's for a long time before upgrading to a single GTX 670. When I ran just one 4890 it preformed as expected. Sold reliable FPS and very few issues. After moving up to crossfire there where the typical issues like having to wait for drivers/patches to get the scaling and kinks worked out but most of the time thous got sorted out in a reasonable time frame.

Now is the GTX 670 a better graphics solution? Yes but that's what its supposed to be as its a newer more powerful single card setup.

Its also worth keeping in mind that not all issues you had with your 6950 crossfire setup where crossfire or even AMD specific issues. Unless you go back and play the same games using the same patches you can't really draw a conclusion which card setup works better. Some games favor AMD while other work better with Nvidia so what has happened to work better for you might have been the exact opposite for others has they have been playing a different set of games.

It's a bit sad that everyone around here was offering a balanced perspective, despite it being the Nvidia subsection, and now it's descending into the same old crap red vs green

How is this a red vs green. Saying that a second card is useless is just dumb. Even they(pcper) said that they need to analyze more their data.

I never suggest to buy nvidia or amd.

My point dont jump so quickly on unlogical statements

Maybe you should go and vent your rage at PCper on their forums rather than implying other users are dumb for quoting them?

I don't get why you'd get all worked up by someone pointing out an article that's already been argued to death in other threads?
