Which cooling type is better. - Page 2

by far single phase cooling
You just missed the deal on Newegg where they were selling the NZXT Kraken x60 all-in-one liquid cooler for $99. It's still only $137 and for that price it is a heck of a deal. I just bought 4 of them for new builds (2 3570K's and 2 3770K's) and it works wonders. It easily will allow for another 300MHz over a nice $40 air cooler like the 212+ (which I recommend if you stay with air) at the same temperatures.

I've also done several custom loops and love them. They cool better, but they are more for brag factor or higher OC's.

I haven't messed with Peltiers / TEC or Phase Change yet ... YET.

As far as Dry Ice/ Liquid Nitrogen, that is pretty much only for benchmarking contests. You really can't run it for 24/7 operation, which is what I prefer.

Ok ,
Thanks alot for your answers and time.
I am looking for a non closed loop water cooling (As i have one now!),
Any way , that basically settles it.
Anything beyond custom closed loop water cooling requires extra time and money.

I will go Custom Water Cooling.
But , out of curiosity how much is the average range of overclocks to the 3960x and the 7970 on good custom loops.

3960X: 4.5-5.4 Depends on chip. The new 3970X can do 5Ghz rather easy thanks to their "Haswell" like setup wink.gif

7970: 1,000-1,350Mhz Depends on chip.

Air cooling is the cheapest one when coming to CPU only. But when we do watercooling for cpu+gpu with using used parts then sometimes waterloop even gets cheaper than aftermarket air cooler for gpu+cpu.

I personally am now a huge AiO fan. They are way easier to work with than tower coolers.

What is the "Haswell" thing ?

the 3970x is just a better binning so it wont get too hot at higher clocks vs the lesser bins.

they cant just overclock a 3960x and call it a 3970x because then the TDP will go over 130w.

What is the "Haswell" thing ?

The 3970X has a higher BIN, but does have an extra 20W TDP. But the 3970X can go up to the higher Ghz with same or almost same VID as the 3960X, so then they call it the 3970X instead of a 3960X.

The Haswell thing is the Newest line of Intel CPU's 4770K for example. But since the 3970X, JUST came out, it's of the Haswell Origin, and i Don't mean it's a HAswell chip, because it is still a Ivy, but the New 3970X is made on a Ivy chip Model, but with Haswell's Silicon improvements. How do i know this? Well the New Batch of 3770K's can OC at higher volts with less Vcore and also at lower temps, so since the 3970X came out around the same time, it has also go the "Improvements" on it.

What i am trying to say is, think of the 3770K/3930K when it launched, it was a Xeon in Xbox 360 lingo, then the 3960X/K was the Falcon in Xbox Lingo, now the New Batched 3770K/3970X is the Jasper in Xbox lingo...it's the Latest Remade and Improved version of the same thing or same CPU Core. Hope you understand all this lol

So with all that in mind, you *Should* be able to clock a New Batched 3770K or Any 3970X higher then their Old counterparts, with less heat or Vcore. (Should is the Key word, since ALL CPU's can Not be guaranteed alike)
