Steelseries Kana = WMO 1.1a? Should I pull the trigger?

Seeing the April Fools thread "Microsoft to release new WMO with avago 3090 sensor! " caused me to make this thread.

I was staring at the Steelseries Dota2 bundle recently (big jug fan, despite the Kantusa not being worth much anymore) and I noticed that they'd listed the weight and dimensions of the Kana, which looked like it would be similar in size to the WMO. Sure enough, when I took out my old, dying WMO to measure it, they were nearly the same dimensions. The addition of side buttons on the Kana would make it nearly identical to the Intellimouse optical:

I've been using this old mouse and it's such a pleasure. The light weight (I come from 130gram logitech mice) almost makes the low DPI bearable. If the WMO had a less obnoxious clicking sound, and didn't break on me, I probably would have used it forever. I'm seriously considering the Kana, as I live in Australia and the Zowie mice would be very hard to get here. The bundle will cost me $93 with a standalone Kana being ~$70(!expensive), so it's pretty reasonable.

The mini QCK that comes with it will be a nice update to my 4 year old goliathus omega, but I feel like I want a larger size, maybe +5 cm in both dimensions. I think I will try out the QCK first, but I want to know if there are other good models to consider (

The thing I'm most worried about is the brand, steelseries. 3.5 years ago, I bought an Ikari laser, which was a great mouse until it broke after a few months of use. I returned it to Europe for a huge fee, and received a new one that also broke within a few months. The first time it was the sensor, and the second time was due to system recognition problems. In contrast, the vital features (thumb buttons and sensor) of my G5 and G9 have both lasted many years. I'm very hesitant of buying Steelseries again, even though my friend's Ikari bought at the same time is still working despite its surface looking like a biohazard.

Has Steelseries QC become more reliable in the last few years, and is there anything else I should know about the Kana, and the dota2 edition specifically (updates that haven't transferred over etc)?

ONLY buy mice from Logitech or Microsoft. The only product I ever bought from SteelSeries and Razer are mouse mats (QcK, Goliathus).

Judging by what people have said most of Razer and SteelSeries mice are gimmicky and are flawed in one way or another and have suspect quality and I can probably confirm that.

I tried out a Kinzu V2 pro edition in a store and it felt... really really bad the surface was sticky and it just felt well awkward.

And I also managed to test out a Razer Deathadder 3.5G and I must say its by far the worst mouse I ever used and if I ever bought it - would be money thrown away. First thing I noticed was as soon as you lift the mouse the cursor startes wobbling everywhere. And also if you swipe it side to side it sometimes just stops tracking properly and its WAAAAY too sensitive I mean cmon one swipe sends the cursor flying in one corner how can people handle that.

The only thing thats bad about the G400 IMO is the shape and awkward button placements, everything else like tracking, sensor etc... thats all spot on and what I would expect.

Im using a Kana on a Puretrak Talent, feels good to me. As for a Kana being $70 :/

Im sure you can find black if you want for the same price. Why buy from Europe when you can buy locally?

I know many people who are using the Kana and enoying it. My main game is Quakelive followed by CSGO and dota2. I've been through a fair few mice (Kana, zowie AM, imo, DA, g400, Abysuss, Xai, Kinzu, and have the g100s on the way). Personally I cant stand anything over 100g in weight (I smashed my deathadder after i tried the abysuss), I am a mid-high sens user 18-25cm/360 if that helps at all.

Read reviews I guess is all I can say.

Got your priorities mixed up there I think. I saw your post about the G400 and size, weight and button placement should be the first dealbreaker, not something like sensor quality.

Shipping brings it up to $68-69, so there's not much of a price difference.

Thanks. I guess I've adapted to the heavy weight of logitech mice, but I love light mice (Ikari is light in comparison, 100g vs 135+g) so anything lighter would be a dream. I haven't played those sorts of FPS in a while, but I'm at 13cm/360 in bf3.

I don't want to know what was done to that test mouse.

I don't think they have local pickup, though if I'm going to spend $93 on a mouse and mousepad, I guess I could be getting a better mousepad with that money (though there's only $23 left over after shipping and mouse costs).

I think the average person has more oily fingers, which can be seen in nearly any library computer. Either way, my Ikari looks like it has leprosy after several months of usage compared to my G5 that looks like new after 6 years, so I hope steelseries have improved the coatings.

the minor hardware acceleration in steelseries mice is barely noticeable and the shape and feel of the mouse is like no other (for most people anyway). people on here focus so much on sensor quality over shape/feel, the fact of the matter is you'll play better with something that feels comfortable more than any benefits you'll get from sensor performance and to be honest the sensor in these mice aren't even that bad. people just over exaggerate it on here because they think they're mouse gurus, their so focused on studying and buying the best performance mice that they suck. just play the game I say

Has anyone got experience with using coupon codes in the Steelseries international store? 20-30% off sounds really good as it pretty much covers the cost of shipping, but I can't find any that work. Apparently I just missed the PAX 30% off one too.
