Seriously guys. Stop it, it's getting boring.

Who cares about gaming laptops outpacing consoles in power. They will NEVER match them in marketshare, optimization, or mass adopting.

This isn't about laptops. Though even if it was, I can guarantee to you that there are more laptops than consoles out there.

More laptops, but nearly all of them are rocking an integrated solution. More heavily an HD3000 or HD4000 with some APU solutions sprinkled in. Nvidia doesn't have any real foothold in the mobile market anymore, even on the smartphone side. Still sounds like sour grapes on their part.

Uh they've made a few comments (including this one that's actually exactly the same thing that was said a year or two ago and doesn't have anything to do with the next gen) about how the console hardware isn't as great as it's hyped up to be (which is accurate to most part) and how not making console parts will allow them to focus more on other projects.

Hardly whining but I digress. What NV is saying here is quite accurate and has nothing whiny about it. They're essentially saying that their mobile stuff will beat the console GPU they made 7 years ago or so.

Not really, this is them stating that net gen mobile chips will beat current gen console GPUs (PS3, 360).

They've been saying this for a while though:

That is the weirdest graph, why does the PC line just stop?

If you say so. biggrin.gif

Now you can make an argument for 700M and I would respect it. However, Tegra 4 and Qualcomm SD 800 are both junk and are about 1/3rd of the speed of xbox 360. So give me a break. Tegra 4 = 96 Gflops versus xbox 360 240 Gflops. Next year the next gen smartphone chips will have maybe 20 more Gflops. They will still be slower than xbox 360.

You should be arguing for the 700M/7970M. Those are good gaming chips. Smartphone chips are junk for AAA gaming. Period.
Argue what? the 7970M is already faster than today's consoles. I probably should have clarified that Tegra 4 is not going to beat out today's consoles, that's just wishful thinking on Nvidia's part. But, they are very quickly closing that gap with mobile chipsets.

Unless you are a developer and want a solid platform that is the same across the board so your code is at its fullest potential for all users. Then the user benefits since they know their hardware will run what is produced, in that sense consoles are pretty great. Again, they secured no console contracts for this generation and they secured the least popular PS3 of the prior generation. In marketing this would be called a "Hey look over here, those over there are crap." They want to push their tegra 4, which is fine, just don't denigrate the console platform because you failed to get the contracts.

Instead of doing this why don't they work with ouya and put out a tegra 4 version. You know put their siicon where their mouth is.

I'm no tech guru or anything but I thought I'd give my two cents.

The way I see it, mobile processing power is way passed what we need in a mobile phone. You use your phone for calls and apps which don't require much power.
The way I see it, if they want mobile gaming to come up faster, is that mobile processor manufactures should stop focusing on the processing power of the chip and maintain the same power on it while focusing on the gpu portion of it while giving it better bat life.. Don't know if they are doing this but if they are, then just ignore this.

Another thing, Maybe mini usb gamepads (Joystick + buttons) would work better ask I find it kinda wierd using touch screen controls. Maybe then, major titles can be played more comfortably.

The PS3 surpassed the 360 in worldwide sales earlier this year: http://www.gamesradar.com/ps3-surpasses-xbox-360-lifetime-shipments-report/

Also I very much doubt that the real money is in an underpowered static console and not in mobile tablets and smartphones. They are putting their silicon where their mouth is... in a generation or two, like they claim.

Sure it's all marketing but so is everything any company says ever. What they're saying though isn't that far fetched and is hardly whining like most people claim. Seems like somewhat thought out statements to make your products seem better, at least to me that's what it sounds like.

Nvidia desperately trying to sway people away from the next gen cause they're not involved. Now if they were involved do you believe they would be talking about probably "facts" like that? No........they would be trying to sell the consoles as the greatest thing ever no matter how crap they are.

Dont kid yourself, as the saying goes "Haterz gonna Hate" mellowsmiley.gif

This isn't Nvidia hating on consoles. This is them promoting their mobile line.....

Tegra 4 in a console would be a huge laughing stock outperformed by the xbox 360. Quite frankly, the graphics performance of Tegra 4 is embarrassing - and it's pretty humorous to see nvidia talking about their mobile tegra chips for gaming. Gimme a break.

1. Tegra4 is pretty much better than any SoC on the market atm
2. In the article he said that the next gen of Tegra chips (POST TEGRA4) , should be able to outperform old crop of console
3. Read article before posting and dont post your opinions as fact please.

Not really that surprising that they are catching old chips with mobile chips at last.
