Coincidentally Nvidia's new chips are on the mobile platform. The one that is going to overtake consoles in graphics power. How fortunate.

Seriously though, I said 'curious' because it is not at all. Anyone who seriously believes this is all just a big coincidence is rather ignorant when it comes to basic business techniques.

What timing? AMD getting the deals for next gen consoles has been known for a long while now, is everything NV has to say about consoles (any consoles, not even current gen) from now on only to downplay AMD or a result of AMD getting the deals?

To me it sounds much more likely that statements about their mobile lines are supposed to hype up project shield more than anything else.

In the console thread, it was mentioned to and was eluded to in the article, that Nvidia had picked up several different contracts.

Now, a weekish later, this article is released on bit-tech, basically confirming what was said in the previous thread.

Nvidia didn't lose a damned thing by not getting into the console market because they practically stole the mobile market while AMD was bidding away on consoles.

You'll see an incredible amount changing in mobile solutions going forward ~ I suspect an entire laptop revamp, pushing the mobile platforms even cheaper/further.

We, as a society, are already to the point of where most people are shunning desktops (This is a market fact)...Nvidia is planning to make a gamer out of the mobile market...Kudos to them.

Project Shield was in development for a long time coming but, isn't exactly the tip of the spear.

What's that line Steven Colbert says? Tip of my hat and a wag of my finger? ~ Yeah.

Flops most likely

It's an old graph though iirc it was shown in 2011.

highest end NV GPUs.
Most smartphones have 720p screens today, dont they?

I don't care about the Nvidia vs AMD fan boy crap. The truth is mobile phones and tablets are taking a huge chunk of the gaming world, and will continue to grow. Nvidia is putting their chips in the right market for investing int he future.

AMD getting next gen consoles is huge for them, but they need to be sure to invest in mobile phones and tablets soon.

Good job.
That's exactly what I was thinking, rolleyes.gif.
Even tho they reference the OLD consoles, they still must be mad at AMD and not getting the new consoles, lmao. Nobody reads anymore.

To me it sounds much more likely that statements about their mobile lines are supposed to hype up project shield more than anything else.

It hypes up their mobile line and downplays the console. Let's face it, consoles are strong competitors. Downplaying them and coincidentally also downplaying AMD indirectly is an added bonus.

Don't get me wrong, I like Nvidia, but this is way too obvious to disregard as a coincidence.

And yes I know AMD has been known to get the contracts for a while now, yet PS4 was announced in february, reports about the PS4 and Xbox 720 yesterday and basically all over last month... this would be the ideal time to start downplaying competition.

I don't know how people will interpret any messages Nvidia will release in the future, about consoles.

Hardly whining but I digress. What NV is saying here is quite accurate and has nothing whiny about it. They're essentially saying that their mobile stuff will beat the console GPU they made 7 years ago or so.
That's why they R&D'd project denver in trying to capture the console market, yep sounds legit.

Best? no... Most powerful yes... and it's most powerful @ max power usage which isn't a good ideology due to the current battery situation of mobile devices.

Or perhaps some one will come out of no where and kill this generation early with a tablet that has all the capability of the consoles plus the portability.

I think I am siding with Nvidia on this one. Though I thought their decision to stay out of the console market was a good idea in the beginning too. Perhaps if they stood to gain more off of it, but hardware is never the profit point of consoles. Sony and MS will probably be getting a very small profit or even taking a small loss on each console because selling the games is where the money comes from. If they are already taking a loss I can guaranty they will be tight with the purse strings when buying the hardware too.

Plus mobile is where it's at. Now with the all the talk of always on Internet connections and games being tied to hardware...if it ends up being true the limited portability of consoles just got much worse. I can easily see kids wanting an iPad over a PS4.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Denver says they were ready to take on the consoles...

This is exactly right, what Nvidia is saying is 100% correct but the timing is suspect.

What does Nvidia have to match the setup going into the PS4/Xbox720? As of right now that will make the best laptop gaming setup (imo).
