[CNET] Windows 8 ekes out 3.2 percent of desktop OS market - Page 5

The UK high street electrical retailer Currys has a deal advertised in the window and I believe part of that deal is that you choose the OS.

The circumstances now are quite a bit different as well. Back then XP was already old and Vista had been a PR nightmare so people were dying to jump ship to Win7. Now, most people are happy with Win7 and there is no urgency to upgrade to what is largely a similar OS. Its definitely not simply an indictment of Win8; there are other factors involved.

Well Windows 7 was also a breath of fresh air after what was a bad OS at launch (Vista), which made many never even upgrade too it, and it was still perceived as a bad OS long after SP1 and even today when it's actually a fine OS. The people who were holding out with XP for whatever came after Vista have already moved onto 7 by this point, and, with the combination of 7 being a perfectly functional OS and with widespread misinformation and bandwagoning, the same sort of exodus is obviously not to be expected.

lol, they'er claiming that win8 adoption rate is going up, OMG, that's the funniest thing i have ever heard,,,,,,, lachen.gif , listen,

anybody going to buy a new computer is FORCED TO HAVE WIN6 INSTALLED, i'm serious.

and if you try to install any other operating system, it's blocked in the bios. doh.gif

they are SHOVING IT DOWN YOUR THROATS, worriedsmiley.gif,

what the hell happened to having a choice,

when i went to the OEM'S website for support drivers, you know , where it either asks you what version of windows you have so you can get the correct driver,

well, it's not there, under compatability it (meaning the physical laptop or desktop) should say : xp,2k,vista,win7, ect. nope, nope, nope!!!!

all is says is win8 under compatability. that's a lode of crap, they are force feeding you, and telling the reviewers that your adopting it, HEY, you have no other choice thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif , never, and i mean NEVER will i ever use win8. i don't like being forced or lead like a dumb-assed sheep, i know better , and i'm not going to let anyone DUMMY-ME-DOWN, which, in my opinion, is exactly what that OS and microsoft are designed to do. SHAME ON THEM sozo.gif

Secure boot stops other things other than the OS loading at startup for security.

Just disable secure boot if you want to install a new OS.

Often times for a corporation the upgrade cost of windows is insignificant relative to the upgrade cost of their business software. I find it hilarious that Vista is still more popular than windows8 though.

I went to an optician last year to get a new set of glasses, they did all the test and what not, showed me my eyeball on the computer running xp. Went to get a checkup another time, boom xp, not to mention when I went to the dentist lol.
I'm guessing a lot of private medical practices still seem to use xp for w/e reason, probably a lot of schools too seeing as many just get hand me downs from corporations as their systems become antiquated. School probably figures hell free computer at no cost why upgrade when most school systems are broke, and they just want you using it for research and work, which xp does as well as anything else.

Probably they're mainly 3rd world countries, those folks who have been using the same computer for 8 years, large corporations, and those that are too stubborn to move on to a better OS that is Windows 7. I mean, heck, Vista only has a small fraction of the market share.

Some corps have software that will only run on windows xp so they cant upgraded to a newer os even if they have newer computers. Im removing windows 8 off my moms laptop cause she hates it and so do i and i just had a client buy a new pc and have me remove windows 8 to put windows 7. Lol hp does not make it easy to find drivers for a windows 8 pc or easy to remove have to jump thru some hoops to just install windows 7.

And the only reason the % is that high is due to every computer company putting W8 on the computers they sell, rightfully so. If there was a choice, it would be half of that if not more.
