Lol hp does not make it easy to find drivers for a windows 8 pc or easy to remove have to jump thru some hoops to just install windows 7.

Did you suggest Start8 to those people?

Have any of you ever worked at a business that has computers? Doesn't really seem like it tongue.gif.

90+% of the computers aren't running XP because they need some old program to be compatible... that's actually fairly rare. You still have windows XP computers because there is absolutely no reason to upgrade.

Windows XP is the era of computer that so far you haven't really needed to upgrade from for "basic tasks". It can print, send and receive normal files over the network, do e-mail, and Microsoft office. This is what most computers are used for- and there's no reason to upgrade the XP machine if that's what it does.

Cool another Windows 8 hate thread. I think there's more of these than Apple hate threads.

They are trying. I've personally built 7 systems since the release of Windows 8, and I have refused to use Windows 8. I've installed Windows 7 64-bit on them. Until Microsoft either addresses my concerns with Windows 8 (which are many), or stops producing Window 7, I will not buy Windows 8. If Microsoft keeps going down the road they are going with operating systems, I will most likely just hang on to Windows 7 for years to come and/or migrate to Linux ... both at home and at work.

Secure boot stops other things other than the OS loading at startup for security.

Just disable secure boot if you want to install a new OS.

Actually, you can't, because there were NEVER any drivers made for the hardware that support other OS's, you would have to search for simular drivers from older models and keep trying drivers until you get ones that provide functionality for what ever they are for, microsoft had to put a lot of presure on the hardware makers to FORCE this move. i'm telling you this from experience, i have had to help lots of people straighten out their hardware so they could use and enjoy it.

don't believe me, ask someone who has tried, or better yet, try it yourself, just to see what you find.

you can always go back and install win8 (once you see that it's much easier said than done)

I wouldn't have if I were in his position.

If people don't like how Windows 8 works, Microsoft should be made aware by high Windows 7 sales and low usage of Windows 8. If everyone hopped on the Windows 8 bandwagon just because they knew they could install Start8, Stardock would get rich while Microsoft would keep making Windows more and more annoying to use. Then we'd have to keep relying on companies like Stardock in the future.

I wouldn't recommend Stardock software regardless though. My experiences with older versions of Windows Blinds were pretty terrible.

I also think win 8 should be compared to Vista, not 7. It's doing fine if you make that comparison.

Tried Windows 8, and I must say, I sorta liked it. Not enough for me to switch from W7 to W8, but if I bought a new laptop loaded with W8 I wouldn't mind.

I find it funny that Vista is still more than Windows 8, lol.

You are right, it's easier to get into a locked house through a window then it is through the front door.

Where I work 99% of the people only need Windows XP, even I only need it. All I need my PC for is to run MS office apps, remote deskop, email and web browsing. Unless some site requires internet explorer I mainly use firefox or chrome, which are both kept up to date so browser security is less of an issue. Currently I'm using a dell optiplex 620 with a pentium 4, it does everything I need with ease. The only reason I can think of needing an upgrade is so minecraft runs smoother on my lunch break.wink.gif
