I'll stick with air-cooling, starting off at the Hyper 212 EVO. I will check the recommended air coolers on the thread here (thanks PontiacGTX!) and see what's available on Amazon.

I really should note, I don't know if my power supply would be a limiting factor... so its the FX-4170 with a Sapphire 6850. Power supply is a Corsair CX500 V2. Is the power supply sufficient for overclocking?

it is enough but CX lineup is poor quality in PSUs

Yep I'm aware of that... unfortunately, at the time of purchase, it was the best available at my location... and still is heh.

Realistically looking at a sensible 4.6Ghz overclock (as in 1 Ghz over a stock FX-4100). Now I've never overclocked before, but I've read some threads around here by the overclocking gurus, regarding performance scaling with overclocking... is there a point where performance starts to taper off and you don't get much benefit from overclocking further? Is there a "sweet" spot? That is what I am looking to achieve with my FX-4170.

Custom liquid cooling is in a different league... including the cost.. To get a basic custom loop you can easily spend $300+.. and that can become $700-900+ very easy when you start adding GPU waterblocks, more radiators, blocks for motherboard components, RAM blocks, decide you need a second loop so everything isn't on just one. biggrin.gif

Just looking at a few fan controllers for some inexpensive case fans. Do these seem like a good buy?

The 970A-UD3 only has 2 chassis fan headers, and I really don't want to make a mess of cable management, so I want all fans connected to a fan controller up front.

The listed fan controller is a 3.5". I would prefer a 5.25". Are there any cheap ones you can recommend? Thanks
