Should I return my 670?

Hello guys.

Well I contacted NCIX and asked if I could RMA my current 670 as I've noticed it has several issues: there is an annoying TDP bug where it caps at 40%, overclocks horribly (only about +50MHz core), and I get some weird bug textures in games like T:A, PS2, and Far Cry 3 where textures appear to keep flashing (I don't think those are artifacts..)

I paid $338 for the card which isn't bad for being open box, but do you think I should have gone AMD?

The main games I play:

Planetside 2
Fallout 3 +NV
Far Cry 3
Battlefield 3
Skyrim

Would I be better off staying green or going red for those games?

Assuming 1080p:
Skyrim is NVIDIA biased and until 2560x1600 you won't notice gains

BF3:

Fary Cry 3:

Planetside 2

For $330 you likely will not be able to get a HD7970 , GTX 670 stock is faster than HD7950 , OCed HD7950 > GTX 680

My second GTX 670 only overclocks to +50mhz core but its still a great card. I guess it doesn't bother me as such though being in SLI and the performance that brings.

I wouldn't go back to AMD but thats just me. Owned both in the last 5 years and always go back to team green eventually

If you think there's something wrong with it and they are willing to swap it, get another one.

Return it and get a 7970 instead, it's more powerful than a 670 and 680 and costs less and should last you longer! thumb.gif

return it and get the full working product and if you are not satisfied with the performance tell us and we'll help you pick something better thumb.gif

GTX670 should be perfectly adequate at 60hz 1080p

mod you BIOS to the GTX 670 and then overclock it for real..
I have a 670 @ 1080p and I have yet to face one issue, must be some other interference going on.

Try the usual stuff: put it in another rig to see if gives the same problem, reinstall (older/newer) drivers, reseat it. There is definitely something wrong, if nothing works then RMA. No reason to switch to AMD imo.

Might also be your PSU giving problems.

Thanks for replying guys.

I have reinstalled drivers and installed them again to 314.07, 314.22, and even rolled back to 306.97, but I get the same issue.

I have also already modded the BIOS to this:

http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/126187/Asus.GTX670.2048.120706.html

The bug didn't go away, but I have yet to try to overclock on this BIOS. Still locked at 122% power and 1150mV.

Would it be possible my PSU could be giving me problems? I have a spare OCZ from about six years ago.. I'll try it out.

I have also seen people on the GeForce forums having their Titan's show a low TDP and just act strange.
