Ahh didn't know you were in Australia, the S60 is also a good pick for budget, that or second hand GT50 (I own a 60" version that I bought earlier last year) that's really quite nice imho.

Sorry to hear that. I would definitely drink yourself stupid and pick up some floozies, though. Otherwise you'll curse yourself for foregoing the opportunity later wink.gif Just don't do anything really stupid.

As for a TV, I'm interested to see what plasmas people recommend. I know a lot more about LCD than plasma, and I'm in the market for a new TV. Why have you decided on plasma?

I also im down under, just picked up a Panasonic ST50 50" TV for around $1300.

For the price blows the competition out of the water
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57564297-221/want-a-tv-now-ish-get-the-panasonic-st50-rather-than-waiting-on-the-st60/

Or as someone mentioned before wait for the newer ST60 to hit shelves, though pretty similar in performance as reviews suggest.

A few people here mentioned not getting a plasma because its "Old Tech", this is a bit of garbage as plasmas have come along way and ironed out a lot of the cons, the only real downsides are the extra power consumption and the lower performance in brighter rooms. If this is going to be your get away though close the dam curtain and enjoy that awesome picture

2nd this, not sure why LCD and/or LED is preferred now besides weight over plasma. Even now the power draws are severely cut down from previous years. I'll keep buying plasmas until it isn't used by manufacturers anymore or until a new panel type is mainstreamed that matches quality (OLED, someother demos at the diff expos)

When he could buy a even nicer Samsung plasma? Might be older tech, but it delivers a better picture.

I ended up going with the Samsung pn51 F5500 for around $800. I just didn't see enough difference in picture quality to pay up to the next Samsung model. I wasn't able to see the Panasonic ST60 locally and wasn't keen on ordering one sight unseen from Sears or Amazon. Do to a current health issue I needed a setup option too.

Ignore the comment that plasma is old and dead technology. I looked at dozens of TVS, spent hours doing research, both reading articles and talking to folks. Having a 32" LG LED delivered for the wife today. Having it delivered to get the old heavy Zenith hauled away. LED because of the brightness in the room and this model fits her needs on a value based evaluation.

the ST60 is known for its horrible input lag.
