PC crashed and won't boot into windows - please help!

I just let my idiot little brother use my PC to play Madden07, and he says that while he was playing it beeped or clicked twice (he doesn't know which ) then the screen went black, and then it came up with a blue screen which said error and a bunch of stuff that he can't remember. (Smart kid, isn't he? ).

When I came up, it had the all too familiar black boot screen that says Windows didn't boot properly, do I want to start Windows normally, use safe mode, etc. So I try boot normally, last known good config, and safe mode, and they're all the same. It boots past the BIOS screen, goes to the "loading windows" screen, and at the point where it normally loads the Windows login screen, it instead boots back the BIOS screen, and starts the loop again. At no point do the drives spin down or anything like that, though. I already reset everything to stock, but no luck. Other than shooting my brother, but should I do?

I just reread my earlier post....sorry if I sounded kinda irritated...it's been a bad day. (Started with me not getting along too well with my parents tooday, mainly because right now I don't have a job anymore, and they say that since they're footing my insurance bill, I should be looking harder for a new job. Then I went to church this evening, cam come and found that my cat had been run over - broken spine, nothing we could do - then my pc crashed to cap it all off.)

hey man sorry about the bad day!

did you reset cmos?
do you have another hard drive you could install windows on to test? only reason i say another drive is so that you dont have to overwrite whats on your harddrive.

CMOS doesn't work, already tried it. I'm running two HDs in this PC, but don't have any spares. Is this definately a software-related problem, or could it be a problem with one of my hard drives. (I have one 40GB IDE drive for Windows, and one 80GB SATA for other apps.)

Is there anything else to do, or should I just reformat the hard drive (for the third freaking time in the last two months)?

(I have to keep reformatting because almost every time my stupid idiot brother plays a game on my computer, it gives an error, and then he swears up and down that he didn't do anything to it - and that it just happened. It's perfectly stable when I'm using it, though)

How old is the harddrive? It might be failing if your brother is telling the truth.

I got the 40GB used, the 80GB is only a few months old. But, why does it only happen to him?

OK, I guess I'll end up replacing the 40GB drive.....I can't afford to spend a whole lot on it, though. Size isn't all that important....speed is more important. Which of these drives is fastestand most reliable?

I find Seagates to be the best brand out there, see if you can find a hdd with a 16mb cashe and you'll get some better performance. Otherwise the Western Digital Caviar 16's are good brands.
