because WINE support is hit or miss on several games, plus it takes extra "clicks" and work to get games working properly. It's the antithesis to Apple's "it just works" philosophy.

You mean games through other VMs like VirtualBox there's insane overhead and graphics support is lacking almost entirely.

it's not much of an alternative honestly when the main complaint with w8 is efficiency with the UI.

That is the saddest statement I have heard in a very long time regarding a Windows OS. I have to assume you don't use your PC to get much work done. Am I right? There are people who's livings depend on the fluent desktop mode which Metro (at this point) cannot match. Not by a long shot.

I think it could be a decent mobile device OS, of course. But that point is moot considering MS is pushing it on desktops. And that say's a lot right there about their intentions for the Metro interface.

Now that I said my peace there, I am glad you at least enjoy the hell out of it. I can't hate on those that enjoy it. More power to you. But let's not wish the desktop mode away. That's absurd at this point in the game, in my opinion.

Sorry to clarify.

I meant Xen, There is no loss. You can VT pass through DX11 games at full pace. in some cases the performance is bizarre as its better

Xen can be managed to launch via the Linux desktop and you can have eyefinity support with 1 monitor running windows 7 and one on Linux with the other on window 8

Honestly the whole Metro UI really isnt an issue for most OCN users, we are more than capable of doing the registry edits required to disable features like hot corners or charms bar. It's the average joe enduser that is forced to adapt.

I'm sure Microsoft anticipated this backlash and it's all part of their strategy. But regardless if you switched or not, Windows8 deserves it 'hated' status.

reg edits work well on a personal level computer but then it comes to dealing with not so personal machines win8 makes me want to hang myself

VT-d..... this is OCN though everyone goes on about K series processors and overclocks and you dont get VT-d for k series. this solution is not without bugs and limitations as well not to mention you are being forced to use ATI cards(eww?) or spend a small fortune for quadros

For others who have to have a billion open windows up all the time it is terrible which is why MS should just give us the option to run it anyway we want (ie a legacy mode for those people and a metro only mode for me)...

You sir explained exactly why I hate metro.

Win8 is a mobile OS, otherwise why would it install metro on PC w/30" monitor. Why would a billion dallor company take a usable virtual workspace called a desktop & replace it with noise i dont need in my face..?

Uber unprofessional... even from MS.. to assume we do not need a work bench, to work on.

Wimdows8 is unecessary... not needed in the PC arena.
